But Montreal has a glut of waiver eligible D already. And it's about to become an even bigger issue when Schlemko gets activated off IR. Mete has been very good. So he's not coming out. So in the top 4 you've got Weber, Mete, Petry. That leaves Benn, Schlemko, Davidson , Streit, Morrow. Who all require waivers. For 3 spots. Try to trade Davidson and Morrow and put the others on waivers. Outside of Weber, Petry, and Alzner I don't think they have enough guys who will be good in future years. Having both Mete and Hutton would give them a decent set-up for the future. Then again, you're probably right they've got way too many waiver-eligible guys. And I totally forgot about Alzner. lol. So top four is Mete Weber Alzner Petry. (Weber and Petry play the same side. You never see them paired up) That leaves a crapload of guys to fill 5-7 they also still have Juulsen who should be knocking on the door next season. Raymond Luxury Yacht
IMO, because we are rebuilding team, Hutton's value is greater to our Roster than it is on the open market. However, I think he has good trade value, he's young, he's putting up decent numbers, he has a decent contract for this season and next and is an RFA after that. I think it is legit to think we could make a package with Hutton for a forward with good talent. I don't think he will be traded straight across for any start player though, and I think adding Baertschi adds no value to the trade. I'm not hating on Baertschi, but he hasn't broken out yet and he is on the last year of a contract, he is a gamble for another GM. He is an RFA though, so if he takes the next step this season, he'll get a raise and perhaps his trade value will go up. I hope we keep Hutton for sure. That's not a slight on Hutton. I just don't see who he replaces. If MTL does anything about their D, I assume it will be for a top 4 LD? They don't need another LD competing for a bottom pairing job

48MPHSlapShot
Tryamkin walks. Sbisa taken by Vegas. Juolevi not looking anywhere close to NHL ready yet. Let's trade Ben Hutton! fp
Ronaldoescobar
I think you may be able to steal a 3rd round pick from a desperate GM but not much more than that. IMO its better to keep Hutton for the time being.

The Edler talks have been ongoing for years and everybody speaks to his NTC. I agree he is the guy who holds more value in a trade but he holds the cards. I also understand Hutton does not hold high value, but he does have value and pairing that with Baertschi plus could net us something decent

The reason to trading Hutton is trying to package him in a deal for a proper winger for Horvat or an all around upgrade to our top

If Chucky is moved, you'd have to think it will be in a move to improve their offence, which is far and away their biggest concern right now
Tre Mac
Well the first thing that struck me is why are they playing him with Stecher? Maybe alter the pairings a bit and let's see what happens or else get ready for a whole lot of Eriksson + Hutton + 2nd for.....

MTL does have that extra 2nd this year. Yak has had a decent start and him and alex have a proven connection. I know the av's have been said to want young D, but they have quite a few young D in their system now, Zadorov, Mironov, Bigras, Lindholm, Barrie is only 26 and they just drafted Makar and Timmins this year. Duchene would help with offense, personally I like drouin better on the wing.

Kypreos reported earlier this summer that Sakic wanted Galchenyuk, Segachev and a 1st for Duchene.
