You know the joke where 3 nuclear physicists and a plumber get together? They end up spending all their time together discussing plumbing.

 

That's what's happened with giving the Sedins, Eriksson and Edler enough ice time to have an effect.  You can't help but have the team (including the coach) adjust to their pace and style.  

I'm overstating this a little, but remember the 2008-2012 Canucks: the whole team tended to play like the Sedins: puck control, not a huge emphasis on forechecking.

Now that they can't play (and I include Edler in this) the team can't help but work around them, all the worst of slow puck control and cycling wastes time and energy.

The result is that Virtanen is on the bench indefinitely while the Sedins, Vanek, Gagner (and Edler on D) are getting his ice time.

 

It's all well and good to think that when the Sedins retire and Edler is bought out this summer, that others will get a chance. Virt comes off the bench!

But what's to stop Benning getting 2 or even 3 more UFAs like Gagner?

No fear...let them play with no fear...and build their confidence, rather than tear it down...TG is no different than WD. 

They are horse tied by the vets...just like Tort and AV, and that was many moons ago...and the coach is still horse tied by the same players!

You have completely encapsulated our frustration.  Sorry you had to do this for us. lol.

Out shot? Tired? Confused? Entertaining? Worth $300?

 

Bet Virtanen was glad he was benched for that one. Can't wait to see who gets Green's "good for the team" treatment now.

For the most part it just appears bad teams were using any goalie they could find to try something new
