Dorsett returned to Vancouver with neck/back stiffness

Where's Wellwood

Well, Jake wanting to play more physical might actually be what Green tells him to do now, and Guddy needs keep doing his thing. But he needs to take care of himself now, there's a lot of time post-hockey that he needs to think about.

Bummer,

hope it’s something minor but with his history that can’t be a good sign.

He’s such a team guy, but DD  gotta do what best for himself at this point quality of life after his career should be a priority.

Probably our most consistent forward this season never takes a shift or game off.

What a warrior. Good on the team for deciding to keep Derek's health a top priority.

Exactly what I was thinking.

Kid just never quits despite what he faces.  Hope he recovers quickly and fully, he is making people realize just how important he is to us.

Heh, this is no surprise whatsoever .

Many of us predicted before the start of the season the Dorset would not get past the 20 game mark.

Total respect for DD  as he is a true warrior.  His body is just giving up on him though....  same thing we saw with Prust.

Total respect for warriors / foot soldiers in the NHL . They pay the ultimate price with their long term health put in jeopardy.

Sad to see DD go through this but  you gotta know when to HOLD EM and when to FOLD em....

A little premature to call it season ending just yet. I'll reserve judgement until he sees the specialist.

Was just going to say Jake is probably the next closest thing to Dors on the team... Eriksson, Sutter, Virtanen?

Hopefully it's nothing serious with DD and he's back and healthy in short order.

Unfortunately I have first hand knowledge about his surgery and the recovery (although mine was the bottom 3 vertebrae not the neck) and it is not fun believe me. The pain is always there, never goes away, it's all about how you manage the pain and taking the proper preventative measures so that you don't re injure yourself...

He's been playing pretty hard....was concerned about his neck after that surgery.

Wishing him all the best.....

Damn hope it is nothing serious. Even though he was on the losing end of a lot of fights, he is one of the very very few on the nucks that will actually stand up for a teammate.

Time for some others to man up!

Dorsett is a very important player for the Canucks. I have been surprised and impressed by his play this season. He said that his surgery was not going to stop him from playing an aggressive, physical game, and he meant it. In addition to being a tough guy and playing a physical game he has played solid defence and has put the puck in the net at an impressive rate.

That said, the recurrence of symptoms is a big negative. One issue is that even if he can manage on a day to day basis now, it is quite possible that long run damage is occurring.

On the related issue of NHL tough guys who suffer long run mental health problems, this article in the NY Times about former NHL tough guy Stephen Peat (from BC) is worth reading. Warning: this is NOT a "feel good" story. https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2017/11/21/sports/hockey/stephen-peat-concussions.html?hp&action=click&pgtype=Homepage&clickSource=story-heading&module=photo-spot-region&region=top-news&WT.nav=top-news&_r=0

Unfortunately this team did need that and Derek knew they did. Despite his surgery he still had the courage to stand up for his teammates and we all should recognize him for the warrior he is.

Get well soon Derek.

100% true he is the only guy on the team, maybe Guddy but he hasnt done it near as much as Dorsett. Hopefully he puts his long term health first
