I'm all for creating a system that provides depth to be an annual contender. If that means short term sacrifices for long term success, so be it. Acquiring a contract like Weber's would be another crippling blunder in my opinion. It would take valuable capspace away, making it tough to sign future stars. I, likewise, have to say no. Weber is a solid D, and if you are protecting a lead, he's the one that I'd want out there. If you want someone who's attitude and game style can inspire the team to play better, you want Subban out there. I think that is what Montreal is desperately missing right now. I think management in Montreal needs a change for fresh perspective. For a cup contender, Weber makes sense, but good luck trading that contract. Aside from Canucks games, I don't really see other team's games. Most "proposals"(which we are required to tag), are a means for me of gauging value on various vets & youth. Mostly just throw these together for fun, & get discussion/input from posters on NHL talent/prospect-info. But folks don't need to get worked up, JB doesn't always seek out my opinion :^) - Weber's hit: 6.5 mill AAV, not 7.8(stated that MTL retains 1.3 mill, in the original post) Heard he's still putting up pts(13 in 20 gp), & Mtl's state is not about him. Of course such reports vary/are anecdotal & subjective. We've never really had a guy like this, on the blueline. Pouliot/MDZ .. Weber Edler ..Tanev Pouliot/MDZ ..Stecher Hutton for a nice extra D. Biega maybe cover DD's spot(dress 7D) With our 'tending & diverse fwd lines, I think this team could make the PO's & surprise people. Losing Granny would be hard on the C-depth, but maybe Burmistrov could cut the mustard ? We'd certainly be leaning more heavily on our summer FA's than had been expected. I thought this was going to be a pitch for one of our goalies because Price is/was/is going to be hurt again. Joking aside, no thanks. What it would take and what I'm willing to give up differ greatly mostly because Price is value is super high to any contender but in reality he is not what this team needs with Demko in the system during a rebuild but I'll give it a try. They would want - Demko- They need a long term solution for not having Price and we wouldn't need him with Price here - 2018 1st round- speaks for itself - 2019 Conditional Second- that becomes a first if the Canucks make it to the conference finals in 2018 or 2019 - Tanev - They need to solidify their D - Baertschi - someone that can be injected into their lineup to add scoring I would give them(again I don't value Price that highly as he is injury prone and we are not currently a cup contender so this is what I would offer to not screw over our future) - Demko - With Price here he would become redundant - Gagner - They need help down the Center and he is a "PP Specialist) - 2018 1st that is top 5 protected and becomes a 2019 - Goldobin/Dahlen/Virtanen - Whichever of the 3 they would like as there wont be space for all of them in our top 6 in a few years. - Hutton - They need help on the backend and I've been unimpressed with his progress this year.
