Where's Wellwood
This is something I was motivated to do when I noticed how many former Canucks hit waivers during the pre-season. We all know the Canucks line up has been relatively disappointing in recent years. I thought, what if we were to make a team out of players even the Canucks moved on from? My rules were this: 1) Must have previously (at any point in career) been signed to an NHL contract for or acquired by the Vancouver Canucks (did not need to have games played with Canucks) 2) Must not currently be in the Canucks organization (so that this team isn't half Utica Comets) 3) From the beginning of the 2017/18 off-season to present, must have been placed on waivers (did not need to clear waivers) 4) Must be on current NHL contract I've managed to create an NHL legal roster (at least 12 forwards, 6 d-men, 2 goalies). Current team signed with in brackets. Line Up Hunter Shinkaruk (CGY) – Cory Conacher (TBL) – Alex Burrows (OTT) David Booth (DET) – Jordan Schroeder (CBJ) – Alexandre Grenier (FLA) Tanner Glass (CGY) – Adam Cracknell (NYR) – Emerson Etem (ARI) Tom Sestito (PIT) – Zac Dalpe (CBJ) – Steve Bernier (NYI) Cal O’Reilly (MIN) Andrey Pedan (PIT) – Frank Corrado (PIT) Ryan Stanton (EDM) – Adam Clendening (ARI) Jason Garrison (VGK) – Taylor Fedun (BUF) Eddie Lack (CGY) Joe Cannata (COL) The only NHL teams represented more than once on this roster: 3 Penguins, 3 Flames, 2 Coyotes, 2 Blue Jackets Any recommendations you'd make to shuffle the line-up so it's more than the sum of it's discarded parts? How would this team do? Over/Under on points? Are you surprised by anything?
-AJ-
They'd finish with about 30 points on the season, setting new futility records.
-Vintage Canuck-
I find it interesting that it only took two months for 20 ex-Canucks players to be placed on waivers, enough to make a full team of. It must be a new record among the rest of the NHL teams.

I don't know enough about the signing history of any other team to try.

Yeah, I'm liking how Jim Benning has turned the team around ever since being named GM. Players he acquired: Vrbata, Miller, Bonino, Vey, Dorsett, Sbisa, McMillan, Baertschi, Sanguinetti, Pedan, Clendening, Conacher, Acton, Hamilton, Bartkowski, Prust, Sutter, Fedun, Bachman, Jones, Cracknell, Witt, Etem, Granlund, Larsen, Rodin, Stecher, Laplante, Gudbranson, Nilsson, Eriksson, Chaput, Billens, Rendulic, Carcone, Skille, Boucher, Dahlen, Goldobin, Cramarossa, MacEwen, Shore, Molino, Pouliot, Holm, Gagner, Del Zotto, Wiercioch, A. Nilsson, Burmistrov, Vanek. Players he moved away from: Garrison, Kesler, Santorelli, Booth, Sestito, Dalpe, Schroeder, Welsh, Lain, Pelletier, Sauve, Ferriero, Mallet, Forsling, Bieksa, Lack, Matthias, Richardson, Kassian, Bonino, Stanton, Clendening, J. Eriksson, Conacher, O'Reilly, Sanguinetti, McNally, McMillan, Defazio, Jensen, Corrado, Shinkaruk, Cracknell, Fox, McCann, Higgins, Hamhuis, Kenins, Cannata, Weber, Vrbata, Vey, Blomstrand, Freisen, Fedun, Etem, Burrows, Hansen, Pedan, Shore, T. (nice work compiling the list, Vintage) It doesn't showcase the players Benning drafted, an area which he has done well in, but I think he deserves a contract extension and be given enough time to see how his prospects (Pettersson, Juolevi, Virtanen, Lind, Gadjovich, etc) do in a couple years from now with the big club. This allows time to assess his future trades and signings as well - I think he has learned from his mistakes in the past, e.g. giving Eriksson a lengthy and expensive contract. petmar74
Onwards and upwards. As for wellwood's, where is he anyways, post. Not a strong looking team. Amazed that in such a short time that there was enough players waived to fill a roster. Not many missed or needed now. Nice work!

But yeah, I’d suspect the combination of our poor drafting history and tendency to accumulate high mangames lost numbers would give us an advantage when it comes to putting together an all-waivers team. Where's Wellwood
Excellent penalty shot by my first line centre. Not sure that I've ever seen a penalty shot and power play awarded on the same play though.
IBatch
Good job...I wonder what our all-time waiver team would look like. We could do two, one for waiver pick ups and one for waiver outbox guys. Could they compete with Vegas?

How would this team do? Over/Under on points? Are you surprised by anything? I would divide this list into _ groups 1. High picks: Shink and Schroed look bad on Canuck management for miscalculating them at the draft 2. Old guys: Glass, Bernier, Booth, maybe Garrison, Sestito and O"Reilly but they might fall into a different category) These guys have had solid if unspectacular careers but are now old. It happens to many good players, (Jagr was waived by Calgary) 3. Waiver fodder: Cracknell (been claimed 3 times) Stanton (claimed by Vancouver) Dalpe, Cannata, Fedun,Corrado, Pedan, Clendenning, Grenier, Conacher. These guys have had careers but lack the talent to be stars and would be on many teams lists. 4. Great hopes: Booth, Lack, Garrison and Etem. These guys caused a stir coming in but never panned out 5. Canuck contracts: Garrison, Pedan. These guys signed their current deal with Vancouver. More interensted in Garrison than Pedan because that was big signing full of Great Hope when he signed here.
