Proposal VAN/WPG VAN/WAS

Doogie

Recommended Posts

To WPG: Hutton + Goldobin

To VAN: Lowry + 2nd

To WAS: Vanek + Burmistrov + 4th

To VAN: Tom Wilson + 6th

2017/2018

Baertschi-Horvat-Boeser

Sedin-Sedin-Eriksson

Granlund-Lowry-WIlson

Gaunce-Sutter-Virtanen

Will these trades work, are we giving up too much or too little? With Winnipeg loaded on the right side, they could use the help on the Left. Hutton was a healthy scratch last game if this means he may be traded soon then why not for a good young C in Lowry. I'm not sure Green is sold on Goldobin and with what we have in our pipeline and our current roster I don't see him fitting in. If we are able to land a 2nd or more for this trade along with Lowry, I'd say its a win.

Tom Wilson is young, plays with heart, leads the league in penalty minutes and is top 15 in hits, he would be a welcomed addition to this team especially with Dorsett retiring. Vanek is playing great and for a playoff contender is easily worth at least a 3rd, he keeps this up and I wouldn't put a 2nd past him. Is Wilson worth a 2nd or a 3rd, I'd like to think so. But, playoff hockey is a different bread and these types of players are invaluable to their teams. So, would Vanek + Burmistrov + 4th be enough for Wilson + 6th, I'm not sure. If not, what could make this trade work.

As for the future, I don't see Baertschi in the Canucks long term plans and the Sedin's should be retiring sometime within the next 2-3 years; This opens up spots for Pettersson, Gaudette, and Dhalen; with Lind, Gadjovich, and Lockwood still in the pipeline. A potential 2019/2020 lineup, a good mix of speed, skill, and toughness.

2019-2020?

Pettersson-Horvat-Boeser

Dhalen-Guadette-Virtanen

Granlund-Lowry-Wilson

Gaunce-Sutter-Eriksson

Winnipeg trade doesn't make sense for both teams really. Winnipeg don't need another left-handed 5th/6th defenseman on their team and another prospect who is already having troubles cracking our line-up, sure as hell not convinced he'll make Winnipeg's stacked line-up. We also have plenty of guys of our own such as Labate, MacEwan etc making Lowry redundant.

Washington trade I like and I think the value is really fair. Question is, would Washington give up Wilson, 23, who's starting to finally come together for a 33 year old vet in Vanek who is putting up points and secondary scoring? Obviously Burmistrov and the 4th round pick are throw ins. If you're Vancouver, you do that trade in a heartbeat. If you're Washington, it's a risky gamble to make.

washington is getting as a return of vanek (worth a 3rd on a really good day) a 4th, a negative value of brum cuz they have to take on an extra contract spot for him when he will never play for them (to them, they are taking on a salary dump from the canucks)

so the adjusted value at best is two 4th round picks

i think washington would not be interested in this trade as the value is not there

Tom Wilson is 6'3'', 218 lbs and one of the toughest guys in the league. But he's also a former 1st round draft pick, 23 with speed & some scoring pedigree from his junior days. And now, without checking (?) five fill years of experience in the NHL?

During that 5 years Tom has developed from a gritty 4th liner. To a highly effective middle 6 winger who has been getting TOI in scoring situations with Ovi & Backstrom.

I'm not calling him a top line winger. But you wont get him for Vanek & bit pieces. He's an absolute physical handful that every opposing coach, and certainly their players, have to adjust to every time he's on the ice.

I feel like Hutton and Goldobin would be the 7th D and 13th forward on a Jets team that is very good right now and don't strike me as depth guys the Cheveldayoff would be interested in. The Caps trade feels like a downgrade for them as Wilson is a spark plug and valuable player to them and Vanek and Burmi would likely be gone after the season.

Washington laughs. Horrible trade for them.

As for the Jets? Makes some sense for them, as they do need a LHD. However, the structure of the trade “as is” isn’t doable. Goldobin would never crack their lineup, and giving up a 2nd on top of it just doesn’t make it likely. Should the Jets look to bolster their defense on the left side for the playoffs, I’d expect them to look for more proven, responsible experience (ie: Jordie Benn, Ian Cole).

To get Wilson we would have to give up something from our D which we can't do ( we need to add d), from our forward group we would offer Granlund or Bear plus a pick or prospect and maybe the would bite.  Wilson is considered the best light heavyweight in the league as far as fisticuffs go, and still has some upside to turn into a PF.   Would love him on our team, guys that can both play and enforce are a rare commodity.

They can't keep everyone like other cap strapped teams, so targeting guys that others can't afford for guys with reasonable cap hits that can score (Vanek) to lighten the load later does make sense, I hope Benning uses this strategy next year.
