[Discussion] Canucks need to acquire Nick Paul from the Sens

Recommended Posts

Hello,

Nick Paul from the Ottawa Senators is a 22 years old player that is 6’4” , 230 lbs.

He plays forward and he is extremely responsible defensively.

I realize that this is not a sexy way to describe a player but I believe that with an opportunity to get lots of minutes, he could turn into a 3rd line gem.

This is is why I think we should help the Sens cut some costs by taking one of their bad contracts for this year and next, and also take Nick Paul.

In exchange we could try and convince Edler to go and give them the expiring contract.

As long as it's not Ryan or Phaneuf. Their internal cap situation really makes you appreciate Aqua man's dedication to the Canucks and spending to the cap.

He was on the 2015 Canadian World Junior team.

He never lit up any league but he steadily improved in his numbers in the OHL, then has done the same thing in the AHL and has only had about 30 games in the NHL so far.

He's a bigger, better version of Gaunce, yes...  but physical guys that will excel in the playoffs is who we should be looking at stockpiling.  It doesn't look like we'll have trouble with scoring if Elias pans out, but I don't see any young prospects with size coming up through our system.  (Labate is mainly a fighter)

Gaunce despite his scoring woes is pretty solid. I’d like guys with a bit more of a mean streak though rather than solid defensive players we already have.

We need speed and scoring from the back end, that's how you negate guys taking runs at you.
