No big deal.

The team played better than the result indicated - but in any event....

Getzlaf

Henrique

Kesler

Vermette

That's SC quality down the middle.

For us - we were severely overmatched last night.

Gagner

Henrik

Dowd

Chaput

Add to that the fact that the team also had Boucher and Goldobin in the lineup - some areas that we're simply going to get beat - the Sedins and Goldobin matched up against the Ducks heavy forward group - that is just a tough assignment for a line that is not very hard to play against.  Nowhere to shelter players last night.

The amazing takeaway from last night on the positive side is that the team actually edged the Ducks in the faceoff circle.

And appreciated the efforts from Chaput and Dowd in particular.

Chaput had 12% ozone starts, 40% corsi, 80% in the faceoff circle, and won a tilt imo.

Dowd was really notable - 43 ozone, 65% corsi, 3 hits, 3 takeaways - really impressive, assertive game all over the ice and making a case for becoming a longer term bottom 6.

We get killed in our top 6 when we're this depleted, but still loved the depth efforts.

Reciprocal -

You seem to like to hand them out , often without comment, so right back at you.

Just as they planned it?

JB has the best gig in the League. Paid to win or fail, depending on who you ask.

Eriksson and Gagner...if he keeps bringing in these types of players, this team will be screwed for a long time.

Basically stopped watching hockey...only catch the highlights now, and if they keep getting shutout, there won't be any highlights to watch.

However, still watch'n the WJC...Go Canada Go!

short of perhaps Eriksson, the vast majority of UFA's he's signed are of the short term, mid-grade variety who are literally here to fill out an NHL roster until kids are ready to take those roles over the next couple years and are paid accordingly ($ and term).

A lot of people's expectations of those players, under those terms, in those roles are frankly, completely out of whack with reality. Nobody's going to remember or care about signing Gagner in 2 years when he's moved at the 2020 TDL and youth take over and start (hopefully) winning games. It literally won't/doesn't matter in the long term. In the present, he's doing his job. The amount of 'ink' wasted on him, MDZ etc on here is absurd.

Don't agree at all...time to move on from the Sedins and 30 + crowd and get younger, faster and stronger...that's not Gagner, Eriksson or the Sedins anymore.

Seen it for the last 5 years...time to move on and bring in young guys with proven upside with the roster spots that could be there when the old guys are gone.

Story is getting really tired...3rd last, 2nd last and bottom 3 again...watch them resign the Sedins, opportunity cost is taking up roster spots from proven younger guys...not perimeter players like Gagner, or old guys like the Sedins or has beens like LE..

That's all slowly happening but it doesn't happen over night. And as I said, nobody's going to care about Gagner and his itty bitty little contract in 2 more TDL's.

It is pretty hilarious how many people can't seem to grasp that we're in the middle of a REBUILD though.

With or without the Sedins (or other 'old guys') we likely still have another couple bottom half of the league finishes in store, so buckle up those big boy pants.

There are different ways of doing successful rebuilds having Sedins resign, Gagner and LE is not one of them.

Can I borrow your crystal ball?

Rebuild seems to be humming along just fine despite the massive road block of Gagner's (actually insignificant) contract.

Really? then you have very low standards and expectations. It's time to move on from the has beens

We have a tonne of quality, upcoming prospects to add to Horvat, Boeser, Virtanen, Stecher, Pouliot etc who are already here, in the next couple years. And a couple more, likely high picking drafts to add to those.

My standards are just fine.

The 'has beens' are already in the process of being moved on from. They frankly don't particularly even register on my long term radar. No idea why they do on yours. The vast majority won't remotely be here in the next couple years when this team is (hopefully) wrapping up the rebuild.
