Are we too hard on our team?

Yeah I get what you're saying.  Been all across Canada, and yes in my opinion Vancouver is in my opinion at the top end of places to live.  Just kind of trashy to bag on a team because of that bias...

That being said.  I hate the Ducks because of Kesler, and love Ottawa because of Burr.  So am I any better?

And what did fans of other Canadian teams like about Marchand, Thomas, Lucic, Thornton, Ference and the rest that made them preferable to Burrows, Kesler, Torres, Lapierre?

That's true.. but the way 2011 dominated the entire season in almost every stat puts them a hair above IMO.. that whole playoff run was magic.. maybe recent memory has to do with it too, but I don't think I've enjoyed any win more than Burrows Game 7 OT against the Hawks... threw my voice out that night

It was an amazing team, but for me, the way game 7 ended in 1994 left me with far more pride as a fan than the way game 7 ended in 2011.

Marchand is the cutest rat out there!

Seriously though yeah.  Point taken. That Bruins team was filled with what I would say are very "unlikeable" players.  Might always remain a mystery, but I think there is some truth to the actual geographic jealousy within Canada.

I remember other fans saying "oh well there's more Canadian players on Boston".. it's just stupidity. They got BEAT on by the Canucks all season, and cheered for another Bettman-endorsed American team to win the cup over their own country.

It's actually a big reason I stopped caring about the playoffs once the Nucks are out. I'll watch an interesting matchup like ANA-CHI, but my care levels pretty low.

That's actually a really good point... the team running out of gas in 2011, getting shut out 4-0 on home ice... I guess I blocked that part of the run out of my memory.

1994: Bettman had only wks/months(?) to poison the well, at that point. NY's blaring media could assist with the meddling & myopia.

2011: With almost two decades to properly rig the casino, it reflects well on that team they could make it that far. Injuries-galore.

Both were honourable teams, deserving praise of champions, IMHO

Both were great teams, for sure. The 2011 team was really just toying with the rest of the league. It wasn't even close.

It's just the way that the team essentially gave up in that final game. Not taking about the playoffs in general, merely game 7.

I've watched it a few times, and it wasn't a championship game, down to the wire type of nailbiter. It was a blowout. Maybe the team saw that the deck was rigged and threw the towel in. Who knows. It seemed that the Bruins had the officials on their knees, mouths agape with what they got away with.

If I had to pick a great game 7 for the Canucks, that would be at the bottom of the list.

The Petr Skudra game 7 against Minnesota was really bad too :P

I've stopped reading the GDT and PGT for the most part as I'm tired of all the individual player bashing that goes on.  As someone earlier said, it's easy to criticize a pro athlete without a clue about what sacrifices they have made to get to where they are while we have our fat butt parked on a sofa noshing on chips. (paraphrased a bit).  Do I think we're too hard, yes for the above reasons, but at the same time I think we all are here for the same reason, we're fans, we love our team and want nothing more than for them to do well.  Hard perhaps to accept that we are struggling again this season for a myriad of reasons.  I agree that the games are more fun to watch this year.  We have so much promise in the pipeline that it's an intriguing time to be a fan, and I for one will continue to support the whole team.  I don't believe we have any lazy ass dogs on the team.  We have players that for whatever reason may not be a good fit but I don't believe they aren't trying.   You don't get to the pro level or stay there by not trying.

Probably, but it's natural in a thread like a GDT to vent.

I loved the way we started the season because I saw maximum effort and entertaining hockey. Through no fault of the team injuries have changed things, but it does frustrate me to see some of the guys take a night off and perform so poorly. That and Edler almost intentionally not passing to Boeser whenever he's open.

Are we too hard? No.. why? Coz it’s not about losing.. it’s the way the team and players being deployed. We are suppose to be a rebuilding team not a make the playoff and hope for the best team. We are playing our vets over young players. Look at how much we are playing ppl like Dowd. He’s like Megna to Willie D.. so much for all he talks about Travis green being a young players coach.. what I’m seeing now from last year is no different maybe a little more up tempo style but still play vets over young guys in hope of making the playoff rather than developing the prospect

I don't like that we're a soft or finesse team.

Apparently Vancouver from what I read locally people seem to think the Canucks have been soft and weak since I started watching them back in the 80's lol. People go on about it because we didn't have what ? Derian and Kevin Hatcher on the blueline ? multiple forward lines of heavy physical producing players ?

The Canucks are not perceived by the rest of the League as soft, I swear people say things like that to get a rise out of this market. I mean and here is where people won't agree but you won't see tougher not putting up with BS players than the twins for example because they just get back up and go to work. Since they rarely if ever dropped the gloves or were dirty they were viewed as weak, dare I say scared ?

But you got 20 guys who will compete their asses off and maybe won't crush people with hits but maybe play with respect which can be confused with being too nice to right.

Let's see....

Sbisa was allegedly one of the worst defensemen in the NHL / worst contract ever candidate, right - but a top pairing D in Vegas.

Weber - wasn't fit for the press box - but re-signed for his 3rd and 4th years on one of the best bluelines in the NHL.  (to be fair, he wasn't good here his last year).

Edler - a lot of people would do anything to get him out of the lineup.....waivers, cap dump, you name it....but coach after NHL coach, and the Swedish National team, consider him a workhorse.

Ballard - lol - never had a chance here...

Meh - this list could go on for pages....so I'm stopping with just a few D....

Sbisa had the best plus/minus of D's last year.   Lots of fans thought he should have been protected.
