[Rumour] Flames looking for scoring winger

Recommended Posts

Quote

The Calgary Flames are scouring the NHL trade market in search of an offensive winger and could make a move for one prior to the Feb. 26 trade deadline.

During Tuesday night’s “Insider Trading” segment on TSN, Pierre LeBrun reported the Flames are looking for a scoring winger, and their preference appears to be for a player with term left on his deal.

LeBrun added the Flames might be willing to part with top goaltending prospect Jon Gillies for a winger signed beyond this season.

The Flames have been linked to Montreal Canadiens captain Max Pacioretty and Ottawa Senators sniper Mike Hoffman, both of whom have term left on their deals, as well as New York Rangers winger Michael Grabner, who is in the final year of his contract.

It’s unclear who else the Flames are eyeing, at this point, but GM Brad Treliving will need to be creative in how he approaches the trade deadline, as he does not have a first-round pick or a second-round draft pick in this June’s NHL Draft to move, as both of those assets were shipped to the New York Islanders last summer for blueliner Travis Hamonic.

Of course they are.

I already have a trade proposal written (But not posted) suggesting they should get Vanek.  He'd be a perfect fit there, as he'd be cheap which works with their cap issues.

As mentioned in the article, Flames' preference would be for a player with term left on his deal. Thomas Vanek is a UFA this summer.

Preference yes, but players like that don't come cheap. Especially players at a decent cap hit, something that will be important to Calgary.

I would be open to trading them back Baertschi. While they may be a step behind defensively, either Boucher or Goldobin would provide just as much offense if given the kind of opportunity that Baertschi has.

They can have Brock. I don't ask for much, but trade should look something like this

To Calgary: The Ayatollah... of Brock N' Rolla... BROCK BOESER!

To Vancouver: Johnny Hockey & Monahan at 50% retained duration of deal, 2018 1st, 2019 1st, 2020 1st

Yep. Brock is that good.

If they are adding a goal score it would have to be a right handed shot. There top 6 doesn’t have a single player that shoots right.

There power play is garbage. They need a new system more than the simple fix of paying for another goal scorer. They already have 4x 20 goal

scorers in their line up.

What they should be focussed on is upgrading their 3rd line. Too much hopes that jagr would work out and it didn’t. Move out Bennett and upgrade on him and add some push back. Another thing that team is lacking.

Is that a Soulfly reference? (Ayatollah of Rock 'n' Rolla)

Very odd considering the personnel.  Johnny the setup guy, Monahan the triggerman, Ferklund for net presence, then Giordano, Dougie, and Brodie on the points, all better PP dmen than we have.
