I think the Motte and Leipsic targets are fine but now you’re burying guys in your own pool. Goldobin is waiver eligible next year fighting for a spot on a team overflowing with 3rd liners. If Goldobin doesn’t go to Russia he probably gets waived.

Good.  Goldobin has the tools to succeed; if he can't put in the effort to beat the likes of Motte and Leipsic then good riddance.  I'd rather a player earn their spot then be gifted it.

What team has won championships by trading for 22 and 23 year olds that have already passed through numerous organizations as opposed to building through the draft normally?  Name me the team

We have enough fringe players already, roll the dice with draft picks and try to find more Adam Gaudette's.  Benning himself said "build through the draft"  We give up more picks then we bring in.

What picks did Benning give up this TDL?  What picks could he have received for Vanek and from what teams?  He claims none were offered but if you know more than him please share specifics?

I just hope that Benning has an ace up his sleeve going into the draft. We have some RFA's going into the off-season, and we need a lot of help on our blue-line if we are to be competitive in the next few years. If we think we are going anywhere with: Del Zotto, Hutton, Stecher, Biega and Pouliot  we have a problem. One or more these guys have to leave by this summer and it saddens me to see Biega leave but my guess  is he's first.

Or Burrows too.  What's your point?  It doesn't nullify the fact that most wingers enter their prime at 23.  In my original post I already indicated some players reach their potential late.  Maybe read what you're responding to.

Touchy touchy. I was affirming what you were saying because there is no average. Everyone is different. It's funny how you try to portray yourself as someone who knows what their talking about. Iv only seen you complain and moan on these boards. Give it a rest, however people like myself get a kick out jokers like you.

Maybe offer some players with value then?  Baertschi, Gudbranson, Sutter, Hutton, Tanev, etc...

Well hey he traded for a player that was waived earlier in the day and now has to pay the full contract because it is a trade, Jokien was free.

Listen carefully when asked about space for new kids he said 1, ONE, maybe two? Rebuild? at that rate Horvat will retire before there is enough drafted players. He said ONE.

Ya no.  Not true at all.  If you don't know what you are talking about don't speak just to fill the silence with noise

Look up what pro rated means vs full contract

Have you seen the Vancouver Canucks?  There's a reason why I complain about them and our management over the last few seasons.  I'm no expert, but I know draft picks are pretty important for rebuilding through the draft.  Keep defending Benning, I get a kick out of what new excuses you clowns come up with every month.  It's getting harder and harder to blame Gillis.

Did he ask?  If you believe everything Bennning said than  will you agree that we have a deep defensive prospect pool as well?

I believe Benning and Linden over some idiots at TSN or some nobody on a canucks message board.

But then what do I know, I'm just some guy on a Canucks message board

Motte and Leipsic aren’t who I’m worried about

Pettersson Horvat Boeser

Baertschi Sutter Virtanen

Gaudette Ganger Granlund

Eriksson Dowd Archibald

And thats without the twins. If Benning doesn’t make a move here it’s wasted assets bye bye Goldy!

Well, objectively

Without extra draft picks (which IIRC we are one ahead of where we should be under Benning) Benning turned a bottom 5 prospect pool in to a top 5 in 2 years of missed playoffs.

Food for thought

Three teams in three years with 7 career goals and he's worth a 2nd round pick?

Late 2nd/early 3rd, yup. And even if it's 'only' a 4th, it's still as much or more value than people are whining about 'not getting'.

He also said our defensive pool was deep during that press conference.

No one wanted to give anything for Vanek. This was a deal made to save face.

exactly this. He wasn't offered any draft pick, not even a 7th. So he did a face saving deal.

Makes it look like he got something back when it's nothing more than a warm body for AHL.

Yeah the one saving grace is that he's put in a great scouting staff for sure!  So even if he gets fired in a year or two, the staff that has found possible gems in later rounds will stay behind.  Though unless his drafting is so superior compared to the rest of the league that his few picks turn us into a champion, that point is moot as far as Benning goes.

I'm actually more worried about the overall direction he's taken the team in than the lack of picks.  Aim for playoffs, trade assets for 20something players so you make the playoffs (instead of trading them for picks) and fail so miserably that you finish bottom 3 for 3 straight seasons.  That is a fail of epic proportions, the lack of picks is just a cherry on top.  The minute Vrbata & Miller were signed I knew we weren't rebuilding, not in the traditional through the draft sense anyway. I predicted that not trading assets for picks then will turn this into a middle of the pack team when they're in their prime.  So far I think we're on pace to do just that.

Here's something.  We're (supposedly) in year 3 of his rebuild, finishing bottom of the league again and despite strong drafting and top picks we have a grand total of one rookie playing.

Food for thought.

Hopefully I'm dead wrong, or we win the draft and get our first #1 D ever.  In the meantime, I'll keep crapping on our management until something changes.

I think it’ll be interesting to see what happens before the draft. If the new acquisitions look like legit players down the stretch, we could look to move some of our other forwards, or even do sign and trades on guys coming up for extensions. Potentially we might even flip the guys we acquired today (as both are young and have another year on their deals) and add picks that way. Lots of possibilities for still adding some picks for the 2018 draft.

Oh jeez sid you are bustin’ up the pity party for the cult of 1040. So many are freaking out when the draft isn’t for a few months.

Why have a spazz tomorrow when you can have a spazz today eh cdc? JB is playing chess while the unemployed GM’s here are playing checkers.

I’ve lurked since 2008 and post less and less because if I listen to 1040 or read the Province it’s an indication of what 80% here will parrot within hours. So sad there are so few that don’t have a ring through their nose here.

Oh well. Go Jets go!

Lind, Gadovic, Demko.   Which of these guys would you trade for Tyler Motte?  Those are the guys our scouting staff found in the 2nd round under Benning.

Draft picks >>>>>> Reclamation projects

So? Next year we could potentially have 2-3.

I'm just saying I don't believe everything he says, he also said we would be fast and competitive earlier this year too.

Man, if you don't believe Benning, then I don't know what to think. The guy is so honest that it is sometimes painful and he has gotten himself into trouble with the league for talking about players when he shouldn't. If he says nobody offered him a pick, he is telling the truth. If he asked for picks and nobody agreed, he is telling the truth. Whether or not other GMs are successful in trading for draft picks has zero correlation to what any other GM is able to do, including Benning. And on a lot of nights, they HAVE been fast and competitive. So what is it that makes you disbelieve Benning? The fact that you don't want to believe him?
