Canucks had the 2nd best odds of picking 1st overall with one ball left to draw. Ottawa had the best odds. Also, Buffalo technically won the 3rd overall pick as well.

The system is not a joke. The day will come when we miss the playoffs by few points due to injury at stuff and look for us to win a top 3 pick and win the cup the year after with the player we draft.

The system will be fixed well before that happens, there are too many big market US teams that are going in the rebuild direction and the NHL can not have them lose money and market.

The system will be fixed because "It is/was not doing what is was intended to do, that is help the bottom teams rebuild faster".

Can you imagine what happens when the bottom three teams are all pushed down or 2 of the 3 for three years and Chicago, Boston, LA and Anahiem are the bottom teams

Yes. It's certainly possible with the way Bettman runs the NHL. Their ad hoc introduction of salary cap recapture penalty was one such demonstration of amateurism.

But until it happens, there's nothing we can do about it. We just gotta play by the rule.

The following is just fun and stupid, idiotic or insane.:picard::lol::bored:

Actually that might not be exactly true, Canada has some really funny old laws on the books still with regards to gambling, manipulation, conspiracies and other out there laws.:goat::blush:

Class action law suits include ALL Canadian teams, not just one. If a group of fans really thought there was "manipulation" or "collusion" via rules, instructions, favouritism, restrictive policies there might be something to put forward.:sick:

Bettman did state, under oath in court, that there was no competition between teams, that they were a single entity operating as an entertainment business. Kind of makes no Canadian team winning the cup since he was hired make more sense, the odds of that happening are so astronomical they are approaching finding life on a distant planet better odds. It has been very beneficial for the Canadian clubs to carry the financial weight of the NHL's weaker franchises. Even to the point that a weak sister making the playoffs means donating less money. In 2010 Bettman declared Toronto "Canada's Team", so maybe the NHL looks a Canada and all it teams as a single entry for the cup.:emot-parrot::wacko:

If this kind of stupid thought were true, Winnipeg should get to the cup final and every Canadian team has had a one shot since 1992/93, 7 teams over 25 years is once every 4 years or so, so far that is only 6 cup appearances in that time an average of about once every.......4 years. OOps forgot Toronto, next years cup finalist?:towel::sadno:

It is so much fun to think paranoid thoughts, ooooo, they are out to get me......oooooo:frantic:

Here is the 2015 behind the scenes of the draft lottery. shows the process of ball picking. :)

Good watch to get a feel for how it all works.

did you see the production quality of what they put on TV.  Nondescript man walking down a nondescript hallway with a stack on nondescript cards into a nondescript room of nondescript white guys frowning in suits.  The TV equivalent of a beige screen.

I guess pulling lottery numbers out would be better than watching that crap.

Fin being there would have made it better.  Hell, they should only send mascots.

my thought exactly. the numbers assigned to each team are known in advance. publish it online so that the fans can follow as the lottery numbers pop out.

Glad someone else mentioned this, seriously having Deja Vu from last year, had the exact same conversation last year, someone posted the same video last year and it's always the same argument why not do it live? This really doesn't prove anything, especially if it's rigged or not.

I'm sure all 30 GMs present are too dumb to see something being rigged right in front of their eyes.  Quit with the conspiracy theory crap.

lol. Conspiracy theory? Who claims that? If anyone wants to see the lottery ball pop out live, that's equivalent to conspiracy theory? Quit with this jumping to conclusion crap.

I genuinely think seeing the lottery ball pop out is more interesting than Daly flipping the cardboards one by one. A number pops out, fans crazily matching it with their team's number and either jubilates or disappoints until the last number. Do this staring from 3OA, then take a commercial break. Return for 2OA. Then take another commerical break. Then the 1OA. There's more suspense to this than the current way of doing things.

How so? A rep from each team is there to watch the balls roll out of the machine. You'll have to come with an explanation of how they rig it.

Actually it's only the teams involved in the draft lottery that are present. Typically it`s the GM`s present for the reveal. The lottery draw itself is witnessed by team reps that are kept in the lottery room until the reveal is completed. Plus there`s a media person invited to witness the draw and a film crew.

Are you serious?  Have you not seen all the people claiming the lottery is rigged?  As Baggins pointed out each team has a rep present for the lottery process.  An independent 3rd party performs the process.  It's not rigged and the reason it's not aired live on TV isn't proof it's rigged like some are claiming.

I find it humorous that some want it televised to prove it's not rigged. As if the team reps, a media person, and a production crew actually present for the draw wouldn't figure out it's rigged but they could by watching it on tv.
