But the chance of him coming in as “ the kid” and being a spark plug like an 18 year old Doughty , skating circles around everyone has a lot of canuckleheads very pumped. I’m happy either way and watching him wherever he plays next year has me more excited for hockey than I have been for 3-4 years. Not only for Quinn but to see how all our other guys progress as well. I hear you. He may just kick the door down. There is such a gaping hole on the team for his skill set. We really are fortunate he fell to us. He is exactly what we needed.

The NCAA has some really good teams, where many of the players are men (20 plus). Hughes is ready, and I will be surprised if we don't sign him soon.
Popular Post Dr. Crossbar
Found the article below about Hughes and an analysis of his play/skills/talent from John Wroblewski, coach of the U.S. National Development Team Program Under-18. I'm highlighting some of the quotes rather than the entire article just so this post is less of a scrolling nightmare. If this has already been posted, sorry! http://www.sportingnews.com/ca/nhl/news/nhl-draft-2018-quinn-hughes-highlights-projected-position-world-championship-performance-usa-ntdp/1gryzk1kbmd3y18p4ct4s03mrh These quotes about his play competing against more mature/experienced guys are truly impressive in regard to what we actually have in Quinn Hughes. Wroblewski even uses describes Hughes as a generational type talent. Come training camp - of course, with tempered expectations - I wouldn't doubt whatsoever that Hughes makes the club based on these quotes. "I mean, he’s going against 24-, 25-year-old men, stripping the puck, and breaking us out, and it was amazing to watch: Defensively, someone his size being able to manipulate a bigger, stronger player.” “You had already seen flashes of it, but he was just dominant that game,” Wroblewski said. “It was the time I’d seen him really just beat the entire opposition.” “He just gave us this dynamic and threw a blueprint out the door in regard to how offensive zone play is normally dictated,” Wroblewski said. “He just has that ability to transcend, and really just think on the fly. It’s truly impressive to watch.” “He’s going to be that type of player that young kids try to emulate — that they want to be, that they strive to be — but it’s going to be very difficult to duplicate what he does,” Wroblewski said. “With this guy, he’s another generational-type talent, and he’ll be an influence on defensemen for years to come. I truly believe that.” "When he makes a mistake, my thing with Quinn is, the more you play him, the better he is," he said. "If you put him out and he makes a mistake, well, get him right back out there and he’s going to make up for it. Just keep playing him and keep playing him, and eventually it’s going to reap rewards for you, and he’s going to take over the game." *** There's no doubt this kid is going to compete hard to make the club. Can't wait to see him in camp. 2 2 3 1

Edler will have a lot less issues passing to Pettersson vs Boeser simply based on handedness.

Edler won't be passing to either one...at least on the PP...as soon as Hughes is on the team...personally I would probably leave him off the 2nd PP as well...

If Hughes makes the team, he'd actually be an excellent partner with Edler on the PP. He'd be very good at setting Edler up with his shot just like (perhaps even better than) Ehrhoff used to.
flickyoursedin
Edler is in a contract year so the idea of racking up points Boeser might be the only guy he passes to lol. Watch Edler put up 50 points this year and get paid. Hughes like Pettersson I find it hard not seeing them outplay what we currently have here. So in my mind that’s them making the team but we’ll see that Jim has in store for these guys if he wants to marinate until they add a bit more muscle. I doubt it though. Those two guys will sell the tickets.
Qwags
I hope we see another Behind the Scenes video of Benning at the draft. Got some quality memes out of that one.

Then, when the inevitable happens, and Edler breaks his stick, Hughes can use his speed to quickly get Edler a new one!!! 3

Nucker 67
Big difference between Bobby Orr and Torey Krug lol Maybe he'll be somewhere in between. But I see what Bert is saying about Krug. Smaller player who skates well and can produce. Thing is, Hughes could turn out to be one of the best skaters in the league. Not necessarily the fastest, but how smooth, effortless and elusive he can be, all while hanging onto the puck and making smart plays.

Hughes is similar to Krug, in they are both smaller, offensive minded D men. Hughes drives the play more than Krug, with both his superior skating, and elite puck skills. Hughes will play next season and put up over 50 points.

Edler had a great year last year. Yeah...he isn't a top offensive D man but he played his arse off for the Canucks and I for one like Edler. FYI. 1 2
