That's a tricky question ; they play different style games imo. Lockwood only played 2 1/2 games last year but I was overall fairly impressed with his play. Madden doesn't have the same wheels , he's not a bad skater but doesn't have the power/speed Lockwood has. He does, imo, look better with the puck on his stick and around the net compared to Lockwood. If I had to choose between the two at this point I would go with Madden. He's a smart player and while not big by any means, doesn't shy away from contact/tough areas . I was impressed. Popular Post WHL rocks
On 12/13/2018 at 8:51 PM, SID.IS.SID.ME.IS.ME said: Been thinking about that lately. Madden right now is producing about the same as Gaudette did in the back half of his freshman year, after he started playing power play with some of the better Huskies, and building chemistry with guys like Sikura. So they’re pretty close, IMO, as freshman, although Madden hit his stride immediately and Gaudette took a little while before emerging as a top player. I think one difference is that Madden plays a more detailed defensive game, whereas Gaudette was what I’d call an “effort” defender. He wouldn’t always be in the right spots, but his work rate allowed him to catch up, and he would manage to be very effective. Madden doesn’t have to work quite as hard, as he seems to have better positioning than Gaudette did. Not that Madden doesn’t also work hard. Gaudette has a better shot, especially his one timer on the PP, where he scored bunches from the same spot on the left side. Madden seems to be a better playmaker, with vision and passing that is superior to what Gaudette showed at the same age. I also think Madden has better puck skills than Gaudette did. And Madden’s skating is ahead of where Gaudette was. Gaudette had an awkward stride (still does a little bit) and had to work on his skating. Nobody can ever question Gaudette’s commitment and work ethic though, and he always played with pace, and he improved his skating year to year to the point where it became a strength of his game. Madden already skates well. Like any kid his age, there’s still room to improve, but he’s ahead of freshman Gaudette in that regard. Where Gaudette probably has Madden beat, other than his shot, is his heart and character. Adam Gaudette is as dedicated as they come. With Madden, there were some whispers about him having slight character issues, clashes with teammates, and sometimes giving a questionable effort in games. There’s been no sign of this at Northeastern, and it was just something some of the scouts noted in previous years. But character is something that has never been questioned with Adam Gaudette, since the first day he laced up skates, so I’d give him the edge there right now (not that losing out to a guy like Gaudette on that criterion is a bad thing—most players would). EDIT: Just wanted to note that, while it sounds like I’m saying Madden is “better” than Gaudette, I’m mostly just comparing them as freshmen. Gaudette took a massive leap forward in his sophomore year, and then again as a junior to become the best player in the NCAA. This is a steep trajectory to match, and we should be happy if Madden can manage anything close to the development curve we saw from Gaudette. Also, while Madden has made a really good start to his NCAA career, there’s still a long way to go before you can even definitively say he’s matched, never mind exceeded, Gaudette’s freshman year. And Madden is a long way from Hobey Baker version Adam Gaudette, who was simply dominant at the college level. Here it is.... it was Sid.... 3 2
Elias Pettersson
Pettersson Horvat Gaudette Madden I think it is safe to say we are set at the centre position for the next 10+ years. Thank you Jim Benning. With of course a shout out to Mike Gillis (BO)…

His father was 200 pounds and had great speed and was a two way force down the middle for New Jersey when they won their Cups, so it's possible Tyler can fill out and get much bigger and stronger and play a similar game. He would really need to step it up to reach the level of Gaudette over the next 3 years but it is always possible he becomes more of an offensive force and ultimately becomes a 3rd line centre type. If that is the case then either Tyler or Gaudette would have to switch to the RW or one of them plays 4C with some bigger wingers surrounding them (Zack MacEwen). Or we use one as trade bait to get a defenceman. Nice problem to have but right now I just wanna see Madden's development from here on out. Can he win the Hobey Baker award like Gaudette? Let's hope for the best. The Canucks have a bright future down the middle. Only 3 years ago we had almost nothing other than BO. Now centre might be our strongest position. vannuck59
It seems we are building a fast team , but size is a concern hopefully we will have a good balance 1

I don't think he needs to step it up, just keep doing what he is doing.
vannuck59
Madden looks like a top 6 performer drives the play and has great vision . I think the US had an off game , Madden is very noticeable at both ends of the ICE in a good way.
stawns
Best player on the ice last night, for the full 200 feet. He's listed as 150, but he sure plays a lot bigger and for someone who didn't go through the us development program to be out protecting the lead in the last minute was a huge feather in his cap. He might be a real hidden gem if he continues on this path. 1
