While we all hope Virtanen keeps getting better it is clear that Boeser will stay with Petey. Haha....good god. haha its called balanced scoring. Or would you rather be like Edmonton lol Petey is elite on his own and makes players around him better so why wouldn't you stack up a second line as well. Virtanen brings elite skating and an ability for puck retrieval. Once he rounds out certain aspects of his game he could be an elite power forward beside Petey. A Dahlen-Petey-Virtanen line would bring skill, compete, solid skating and overall balance to the line.

He doesn't really create space for Petey and uses space Petey creates. Maybe Dahlen will make more space and it won't matter. But Virtanen draws coverage with his play and pushes guys off with his speed. Plus he has killer zone entries. Petey in space behind someone like Virtanen would be amazing. Or Petey and Dahlen on Horvats wings if we get another killer center to play with Virtanen and Boeser like maybe Jack Hughes. As Horvat would create space for Petey.

I can see Virtanen on Petey's wing in the future once he develops more of his overall game. Dahlen-Petey-Virtanen Goldy/Baer/2019pick-Horvat-Boeser MacEwen-Gaudette-Lind There's no way Petey and Boeser are separated, unless something unexpected happens. They just play well together and compliment each other extremely well. What we need is a top 6 LW that can cause some havoc and create space for Petey and Boes, as well as one more top 6 winger to play with Horvat and create a bit more space for him. Ideally that would be Virtanen, but at this point his offensive game is still too one dimensional to do it at a consistent level. 2

Virtanen just seems to play better when he’s not in the top 6 and doesn’t have to focus on offence.

Virt needs to bring more consistency before he ever would take over RW on EP's line. Pretty clear how Green has been playing them. Keep hoping and wishing though lol. Popular Post The_Rocket
Is Madden the favourite right now for freshman of the year? Top line centre, plays in all 5-on-5 situations, does pk and pp, and is scoring at the 2nd highest rate for freshman. The highest scoring freshman, Casey Dornbach, is 2 and a half years older and is scoring fewer goals. I think Madden would be the favourite right now with about two months left in the season 3

Popular Post RetroCanuck
From Dobber comes a very nice review of our most recent potential centre star. Tyler Madden (C) – 68th overall in 2018 by the Vancouver Canucks – PNHLe: 58 The Northeastern Huskies (NCAA) took a huge hit last year as their three top scorers moved on to the professional level. Madden has stepped in as a freshman and provided offensive production that had been decimated since Dylan Sikura, Adam Gaudette and Nolan Stevens’ departure. This entire season has been a revelation for the son of former Selke winner, John Madden. Not only is he leading the Huskies in scoring, he used his stellar start to the 2018-19 season to catapult himself into the running for one of U.S.A.’s last World Junior roster spots and was a dominant force by the end of the tournament stealing quality ice-time from some higher ranked prospects. He ended up scoring three goals and four points during the World Juniors and took home a silver medal in the process. Madden is a versatile player, plays on both special teams units, and is a first line pivot whose sky is the limit. 3 2

The eye test says Madden is more of a lock than Wahlstrom who went 11th overall last year...I just watched the USA -Finland gold medal game again and in one sequence Madden holds the puck in the O zone, makes a great feed and goes to the net so hard he basically knocks his defender into Wahlstrom and clears the both of them out of in front of the net to go after the rebound. It's the size of the fight in the dog that matter's and Tyler has it in spades over guys like Wahlstrom. We have some great depth at centre now with Gaudette and MacEwen as well...someone is going to have to play the wing!

It seems to be a fairly universal idea that good teams are strong down the centre and I think it's safe to say that's going to be our strongest position, perhaps for years to come. We have all kinds of strong down the centre.
