Or maybe you just meant some of the old Canucks like Mason Raymond, David Babych, Dixon Ward, Kevin Connauton, Troy Gamble, Craig Coxe, Corey Hirsch, or maybe even Jim Benning! How many guys didn’t make it? You think the AJHL, and other leagues across Canada of that level, over the past 50 years have produced as many NHL players as the CHL? Top that bad boy up, because drunk Alf is way more entertaining. I think the point is that players do and will come out of these lesser leagues, like Cale Makar and Colton Point as recent examples.

What % of CHL drafted players make the NHL vs what % of AJHL players drafted make the NHL? That would be a more relevant question. Does the CHL have more of your "bustaroos" or is it the BCHL. AJHL. etc? It is all relative based on the number of players being drafted out of those leagues.Your comment that Thiessen will not make it because he played in the MJHL is just silly. He is going to Maine to play NCAA hockey next season so do they only produce "bustaroos" as well? Nearly 33 percent of the NHLers who played college hockey spent all four years in school, with 70 percent staying at least three years on campus. Twenty-seven percent of the former college players who played in the NHL this year were undrafted free agents.Apr 3, 2017 1

There are a lot of "bustaroos" coming out of Juniors if you can believe these stats. What percentage of junior hockey players make the NHL? So if we count the 400 game league minimum for the Player Pension as having a 'career' in the NHL, then 0.16 percent will get drafted into the NHL and only 0.02 percent of hockey-playing boys in Ontario will make a 'career' out of hockey. Very true. Most of the Junior A players are either not good enough yet to play in the CHL or are looking to go the NCAA route. You cannot play in the NCAA if you have played in the CHL and that is a driver for many players such as Cale Makar to play in the AJHL vs the CHL....it was not because he wasn't good enough to play in the CHL.
Popular Post SID.IS.SID.ME.IS.ME
Thiessen saved 19/22 en route to a 4-3 OT win. That’s his third straight win and moves him back to a winning record on the season at 14-13-3-4. 1

RetroCanuck
From Dobberprospects More News and Notes A name to keep an eye on is Matthew Thiessen. Thiessen has had a bit of a rough season for Dubuque but posted a 44 save shutout which includes at least 15 high-danger chances against. Thiessen earned this shutout in every single way. Do not let his record that hovers around .500 fool you, the Dubuque goalie is developing nice and slowly in the USHL. Thiessen committed to the University of Maine in the Fall and was the 192nd overall pick in the NHL Draft by the Vancouver Canucks. Expect Thiessen to be a four-year player for Maine as he works up the depth chart. His raw skills are there but again, he is a raw goalie who needs work. Nice to know we have another raw, yet promising goalie in the pipeline. Its great that he's in the NCAA allowing him to round out his game. Wouldn't be apposed to the Canucks taking another late round goalie this draft if he's BPA.

Ray_Cathode
Kids that don’t want to forego a scholarship opportunity go the provincial leagues toute. Lots of good players go that way, Paul Kariya, Brett Hull, to name a couple. Canucks used to troll those leagues for later picks and free agents that needed more development - guys like Gary Valk, Dixon Ward, Greg Adams, Tanev and others. According to Jim, "you can never have enough goalies".

I tend to think the entire reason Vcr signed Kielly was to avoid using a draft pick on a goalie this year We currently have DiPietro, Thiesen and Keilly as prospects. Without ever seeing him I'm putting money of Keilly
Quantum
I was just on EliteProspects.com and I noticed that Matthew Thiessen is going to be teammates with Brady Gaudette aka Adam Gaudette's brother. Though Brady is already 20 and heading into his first NCAA season, it'll be interesting to see how Matthew and Brady do at the University of Maine this year. Podz92
Matthew Thiessen got the start for Maine last night against the US under-18 team and made 30 saves for the shutout. https://mobile.twitter.com/MaineIceHockey/status/1216183739568377856 1 2
Dazzle
What's the deal with this guy? Do we still have him as a prospect? His one game from 2018-19, from what I see was a whopping 25.59 GAA and a .500 save percentage. How the hell did this happen?

theo5789
Looks like this will be a more telling year for development for Thiessen. Their starter has signed on to turn pro, so now he's the go-to guy. Hope he takes it in stride.

Do we still have this guy as a prospect or did we release him? There's no info on him whatsoever, with respect to him being Canucks property.
