2018-19 Utica Comets Thread

Recommended Posts

It sounds like a really dirty, outa' control league. Apparently 2nd night in a row opponents were getting rough w/linesmen. On HFBoards, heard Comets were down to 3D, as many of our guys were being run.

Don't really want to see Juolevi thrown back into that AHL-cesspool. When the kid's healthy, send Pouliot to them. Don't send Gaudette down again!

No surprise at all, that our franchise seems to get this kind of behaviour coming their way. Do other(league darlings) ever get this intent to injure, game after game?

I hope the Org/Benning/RJ take this up with the league(s). Absolute bulls***.

Edit: I think his name is actually douch& goalie. He thinks he works for a hockey team lol.

You talking about “bad goalie?” I haven’t read the HFBoards Comets thread for a while, but I didn’t mind him when I did frequent that place. He definitely can get pretty salty with other posters, gets in some silly squabbles, and I don’t really see the game the same way he does (list of areas we don’t see eye-to-eye is too long to detail here). But I did find his posts informative at times. I’d just read them through a kind of filter where I discount and toss aside a bunch of what he says, and then get a decent enough picture of things from the stuff I was able to separate out, once I’d removed most of the stuff from his various biases, quirks, and blind spots.

Actually, I use that same kind of filter on most of what I read on HFBoards Canucks. ;)

Comets have the same problem as last season. Not enough size, push back, or physical players to deter the opposition....

The Canucks are as usual failing to address the same problems season after season......

The comets last year didn't turn the corner till some size was brought in from the ECHL....

Whatever they decide..wouldn't risk OJ if opponents will run around like a goon league. NHL protects some teams( 2 rulebooks), more than others. Wouldn't surprise me at all if this inconsistency filtered down another level.

Glad they had him in Finland last yr(can't remember if he was eligible..but don't care)

Yeah, some posters on that site have basically rendered it intolerable. First coupla yrs it was okay, & a decent source of info. That was then.

So you have multiple user names for different message boards and come on here to use childish names for posters on a different board?  Very mature of you...

Besides all that, do you have a few bullet points on the game that you can share with us?

That would be insanely difficult to remember all the names and passwords.  I guess young minds are sponges.

Do you think Dahlen is getting physically stronger?  I know he’s scoring, but does he look stronger on pucks?

The Comets scored on each of their first three shots and hung on from there to win by three.  Seven goals from seven different players including another power play goal from Dahlen.

Second night in a row where the Comets were targeted with cheap shots and lost Sautner on a hit from behind by Eric Tangradi. Gaunce even took a shift on defense when Graham and Brisebois went down but both later returned.

Unlike Friday when the Comets made Springfield pay with PP goals they were only 1 for 6 last night and failed to score on a 5 minute major and full 2 minutes of 5 on 3.

Dahlen is on a hot streak but nearly all if it has been on the power play.  At 5 on 5 he still fades away and becomes invisible at times.  I don't think his skating is at the level where he can find separation at 5 on 5 and doesn't have the physical strength to make up the difference.

He is improving but needs to become more effective at 5 on 5.

That’s what I was thinking too.  His game is below the dots, and not off the rush.  He needs to physically mature.

Not sure who the player was from Springfield that shoved the linesman at the end of the game but that was a really dumb thing to do. I am guessing he will face supplementary discipline from the AHL today for that indiscretion.

and he gets a 1 game suspension

The more time in the A for Gaudette and Juolevi...  the better imo.   First year NA pros should in most cases play a full year at that level.  It’s healthy for their development to play heavier minutes and make mistakes and adjustments so that when they hit the NHL they are far better prepared for success.

Relax. It's not an out of control league at all. It's the best developmental league in the world to prepare for the NHL. And although the game has changed, it's still hockey and it's still a tough and physical sport that will pick out the weak. And if you can't hack it in the A, then you're definitely not going to be able to hack it in the NHL, where the scouting reports will tell each player who and how they can target each player to get them off their game.  You can't not send your prospects there because you're scared that they'll be picked on and harassed, as that's part of dealing with being a professional hockey player is. And if it's that much of an issue, then that's up to the Canucks to find guys who will help shelter and protect them. Crying to the league about your players and franchise getting picked on, will get you just as bad of a rep, as it would if the other teams know that you won't stick up for yourself. Pretty sure that the guys running the league could care less about who's farm team is where as far as anyone getting special treatment goes. I'm thinking that if Arseneau weren't injured and if they had someone a little tougher than Woods around (who I don't even think dressed last night), that this wouldn't be as much of an issue.
