Great news!

Now we can let Sutter walk and keep a key penalty killer.

I think people are underestimating his importance and leadership to this team.

In no way should Sutter be 'Plan A', but we will still need a 3C from somewhere...

imagine if we just signed Beagle to a 1 year 3M contract. no one would be happy.

Most of you are just such big supporters of the team, you think beagle is better than he is. and what is he to me? a 1M salary player!

Jay Beagle is the 4TH oldest oldest career 4th liner in the NHL.

Im kinda speechless you are happy he is returning.

1. He got the contract to come to a loser team

2. He allows Bo to play more O which we all want

3. He is a great leader and example to the younger guys about how to play.

4. We are not a contender, yet. So, having some guys like this on our team is beneficial for the cost.

5. In the bubble, he was scoring goals which you want.

6. Motte plays better with Beagle. Those two make a dynamic PK unit.

7. Back to the contract, He got it before Covid made it flat. It was a good price considering we all expected the Cap to continue to grow. If you could have predicted Covid then you could have signed a better contract.

8. Burke has said that most players do not want to play in Canada. So, to get UFA's you will have to overpay to get them here.

But you have stats, right

If he was injured we have to put him on LTIR and we would be without a 4th line center. We were significantly worse team when Sutter and Beagle went down. They do not have great contracts and Beagle only has one year left. Of course it’s a good thing Beagle will be back. You could insert Graovac for awhile but guess what injuries happen. We need the depth. Right now we do not have a 3rd line center, that’s a huge hole. Having Beagle back softens the blow.

Overpaid players do not equal bad players. Not everyone is Loui Eriksson for crying out loud.

We need 3 lines that can score. A 4th line that can provide energy. Win draws. Start in your own end. Beagle was never brought in to put up points

Awesome rebuttal.

We need our young guys to learn to play the right way. The way he plays.

Sundin helped turn Kesler into the player he became.

Sedins helped turn Bo into the player he is now.

Beagle is doing the same now.

Sports are human. What is on paper does not matter. I live in Europe now and France was predicted to be the King of the Euro cup. France was knocked out by a little Swiss team because France did not come to play.

Learning to play well. Having those leaders in the room as you rebuild a team will pay dividends when the team is competing for the cup.

Stop with the garbage stats and watch hockey. Learn about the human side of sports

a guy that put up 22 and 30 points, his previous 2 years was expected to drop his scoring by around 66%?

if he scores no points next year and has a terrible +/- will you still say that?

and where is the proof that jay beagle wasn't brought in to score points? any quotes?

He is on the 4th line. Plays D zone, grinding minutes and PK.

It’s pretty obvious is it not? Beagle put up some nice numbers there for what he brings. Outside those 2 seasons where do you even remotely see that kind of production throughout his career. He put up some 2 way numbers. Won a Stanley cup and got paid.
He will never put up 20 points again but that doesn’t take away from the other qualities he brings. Don’t kid yourself he was not brought in for the points, the were just a hopeful bonus.

Teams that win Stanley Cups like the Capitals did tend to have a deep team. You can bet he probably played with better players then he has here in Vancouver and as time goes on you can expect those numbers to drop with age. But for everything else he can bring it’s no brainer we probably can’t do better then what he does for that position. Hopefully he can bring some mentorship for a younger player we will need to fill that void in the coming years

Not hopefully. You know he is when he arrives to training camp and is one of the few forwards ready to play. When he is more in shape year round than the young guys. The same as the Sedins embarrassing the young guys every year with the Grouse Grind.

ahhhh. i have watched beagle suck it up for many hours, if it wasn't for motte beagle would be a ahl'er.

what garbage stats did i use age? 5vs5 scoring? pk opposition scoring ratio? elite competition? turnover ratio?

and you have a short memory, like goldfish short. but let me remind you again.

It doesn't take a genius to realize that when beagle gets off the ice we do not have possesion 9/10. and for the entire time we have a near zero chance to score. hooray for beagle and his ancient legs that gets outworked by young players night after night.

thats not proof! I want a quote from Jim or Green!

Vancouver, B.C. - Vancouver Canucks General Manager Jim Benning announced today that the club has signed centre Jay Beagle to a four-year deal with an AAV of $3.0M.

"Jay is a detailed player with championship experience, who can handle a big defensive workload," said Benning. "He's grown and developed his game with a core group of players and won at every level of pro hockey. We're excited to add a player with his calibre of character and experience to our team."

Beagle, 32, spent the 2017.18 season with the Washington Capitals, collecting 22 points (7-15-22) in 79 games. He ranked fourth in the League for the best face-off winning percentage (58.5%) in the regular season.

The Calgary, Alberta native added eight points (2-6-8) in 23 playoff games en route to a Stanley Cup Championship. Beagle became the first player to win the Kelly Cup (ECHL championship), the Calder Cup (AHL Championship) and the Stanley Cup (NHL Championship).

Over the course of his 10-year NHL career, the 6'3", 218-pound centre has posted 116 points (51-65-116) and 159 penalty minutes in 471 games, all with Washington. He has also seen action in 85 NHL playoff games, tallying 19 points (8-11-19) and 36 penalty minutes.
