The Satanic Temple sues elementary school as after-school club rejected (msn.com)

The Satanic Temple

has filed a lawsuit against a Pennsylvanian elementary school after the school board voted to deny the establishment of the After School Satan club.

Northern Elementary School in York, Pa., is being sued on the grounds of constitutional violation. The Satanic Temple intends to prove the school board discriminated against the temple by barring the creation of the After School Satan club, despite other organizations being allowed to operate their own programs.

Mathew Kezhaya, the general counsel for The Satanic Temple, told ABC the litigation could take up to two years to complete — potentially longer if the case were moved to the U.S. Supreme Court.

"The First Amendment prohibits a government from considering the popularity of communicative activity when determining whether to facilitate that communicative activity on equal terms with other, similarly situated, groups," he told ABC.

According to ABC, Northern Elementary School officials made "discrete statements" informing the temple if they removed "Satan" from the club's name, their chances of being permitted as an after-school program would increase.

Lucien Greaves, a Satanic Temple spokesperson, told Fox News it will be costly for the school and community to continue with litigation, should they still bar the After School Satan club.

"If they deny us the use of a public facility, which they have no right to do, it'll have to move into litigation — costly litigation that the community is going to have to pay for," he said.

On The Satanic Temple's website, the organization claims the after-school program does not actually involve Satan.

"The After School Satan Club is an after-school program that promotes self-directed education by supporting the intellectual and creative needs of students," they wrote.

The After School Satan Clubs meet at select public schools where Good News Clubs also operate," The Satanic Temple continued. "Trained educators provide activities and learning opportunities, which students are free to engage in, or they may opt to explore other interests that may be aided by available resources."

The Satanic Temple also claims the After School Satan club includes no religious instruction whatsoever.

"Proselytization is not our goal, and we’re not interested in converting children to Satanism," they wrote. "After School Satan Clubs will focus on free inquiry and rationalism, the scientific basis for which we know what we know about the world around us."

These guys are fun.

I got quite a kick out of the Hail Satan? doc.

people seem to like playing with fascist ideas every few generations. And we just have a lot of hateful monkey brains in our species still.

It wasn't just a loss for the far right in France. Slovenia also decided to say no to wannbe fascists....

An opposition liberal party convincingly won Sunday's parliamentary election in Slovenia, according to early official results, in a major defeat for populist Prime Minister Janez Jansa, who was accused of pushing the small European Union country to the right while in office.

The Freedom Movement won nearly 34% of the votes, compared with around 24% for the governing conservative Slovenian Democratic Party, state election authorities said after counting over 97% of the ballots.

Trailing behind the top two contenders were the New Slovenia party with 7%, followed by the Social Democrats with more than 6% and the Left party with 4%.

The results mean that the Freedom Movement, a newcomer in the election, appears set to form the next government in a coalition with smaller leftist groups. The party leader addressed supporters via a video message from his home because he has COVID-19.

“Tonight people dance,” Robert Golob told the cheering crowd at the party headquarters. “Tomorrow is a new day and serious work lies ahead.”

Jansa, an ally of right-wing Prime Minister Viktor Orban of Hungary, congratulated the “relative winner” of the election in a speech.

“The results are as they are,” Jansa said, praising his government's work. “Many challenges lie ahead for the new government, whatever it may look like, but the foundations are solid.”

A veteran politician, Jansa became prime minister a little over two years ago after the previous liberal premier resigned. An admirer of former U.S. President Donald Trump, Jansa had pushed the country toward right-wing populism since taking over at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Reflecting strong interest in Sunday's election, turnout was higher than usual — around 67% of Slovenia's 1.7 million voters cast their ballot, compared with 52% in the previous election in 2018.

Golob, a U.S.-educated former business executive, came out as a frontrunner shortly after entering the political scene. The Freedom Movement party has advocated a green energy transition and sustainable development over Jansa's nation-centered narrative.

Liberals had described Sunday’s election as a referendum on Slovenia’s future. They argued that Jansa, if reelected, would push the traditionally moderate nation further away from “core” EU democratic values and toward other populist regimes.

Opinion polls ahead of the vote had predicted that the leading parties would be locked in a tight race.

Jansa's SDS won the most votes in an election four years ago, but couldn't initially find partners for a coalition government. He took over after lawmakers from centrist and left-leaning groups switched sides following the resignation in 2020 of liberal Prime Minister Marjan Sarec.

Jansa, in power, faced accusations of sliding toward authoritarian rule in the Orban style, drawing EU scrutiny amid reports that he pressured opponents and public media, and installed loyalists in key positions for control over state institutions.

The Freedom House democracy watchdog recently said that “while political rights and civil liberties are generally respected (in Slovenia), the current right-wing government has continued attempts to undermine the rule of law and democratic institutions, including the media and judiciary.”

Who'd have thought that Melania's former country would be less inclined to install a dictator than her current home?

I didn't know this was a thing.

Seems very discriminating. Just ask what kind of sex you have if it's a concern....it's not just a man with man scenario.

It's called sex, and many straight folk indulge in exactly what they were banning. I know that the gay community has higher risk of HIV but there is no need to stigmatise.

Why is it a problem to ask questions that could lead to blood being infected and infecting others?  If people don’t like the questions they can just leave.  No one is forcing them to donate.

No problem with these questions.  Don’t like ‘em; don’t donate.  Simple.

Exactly.

Don't discriminate the life style, just ask the donor if they participate in this type of sex. Straight, gay or whatever...if the activity is a big concern.

Even so don’t we screen donated blood for bugs?  So why ask any question?

I don’t mind the asking, but if we are testing the blood what’s the point of the questions?

They are asked to reduce amount of testing so the system don't get backed up.

If there is an increased chance of the blood having issues, it is probably best not to waste the lab's time conducting tests that would other wise be used with blood that have less risk.

Pretty much resource management 101.

@Boudrias

I also agree that nations outside of Europe should not have got dragged into WW1.

For centuries Europeans have been killing each other senselessly for the same pieces of territory.

It was as the Allied generals described a war of attrition, the allied generals were willing to sacrifice millions of young men for a few miles of ground.

It is true that after WW1 the European powers were weakened however the US never became a global superpower until they profited from both sides of the conflict in WW2.

WW2 was different.

We are talking about the greatest evil this world has ever seen.

The US " charged" for their help in fighting the greatest evil this world has ever seen and they made money from the Nazi's who perpetrated that evil.

I have provided evidence of this which you seem to have ignored.

Oh and by the way my father lived through the depression in England, his parents were dead and he and his sister  lived on a few spuds a day for weeks on end.

So I have heard from from a first hand source how hard it was for some people back then.

Not exactly a 'world event' but posting because Joan is a bad ass while Ted is a dumb ass.

Joan Jett Drops a Cherry Bomb of Truth Over Ted Nugent Best Guitarist Diss: ‘He Has to Live With Being Ted Nugent’

Consider the source. That was Joan Jett‘s pointed retort in a new interview in which she was asked to respond to right wing rock ranter Ted Nugent‘s unsolicited shot at her in January, when he claimed she didn’t belong on a list of the best rock guitarists.

“You have to have s–t for brains and you have to be a soulless, soulless prick to [include] Joan Jett,” Nugent said in a video he posted in December in which he belatedly reacted to a list originally published by Rolling Stone‘s David Fricke in Dec. 2010. Nugent was not included on Fricke’s list, while Jett came in at No. 87. He doubled-down on his misogyny at the time with an added dose of homophobia. “[I] love Joan. Some of my greatest memories include lesbians. I love the lesbians; it’s a cocktail of wonderment,” he said.

Nugent then topped his hateful rant off with some racism and transphobia. “By the way, if Grandmaster Flash is in the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame and Joan Jett is on the list of top 100 guitar players, then I’m Caitlyn Jenner’s boy toy,” he said.

In an interview with the NME about her new first-ever acoustic album, Changeup, Jett shrugged off Nugent’s potshot, dryly noting “Neither should he… Is that his implication? That he should be on the list instead of me? Well, that’s just typical – it’s what I’ve dealt with my whole life, being written off. Ted Nugent has to live with being Ted Nugent. He has to be in that body, so that’s punishment enough.”

Jett, who has never been one to pull punches, then dug up the infamous story about Nugent allegedly dodging the Vietnam War draft by loading up on junk food so he would have a load in his pants in an attempt to fail the physical.

“He’s not a tough guy. He plays tough guy, but this is the guy who s–t his pants – literally – so he didn’t have to go in the Army,” Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Jett said of the infamous story Nugent told High Times magazine in 1977 about his attempt to get a “4-F” designation” to avoid serving his country; Nugent denied the story in a 2018 interview with Spotify’s Joe Rogan, in which he claimed he made the whole story up to mess with the magazine. The myth-debunking site Snopes dug around and reportedly found out that Ted was, indeed given an “unfit for service”4-F designation for unspecified reasons after obtaining two student deferments.

“So this is the tough guy who’s running around America, stirring things up against each other,” Jett added about Nugent.

Love it, Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Joan Jett neuters the Scatman! Brags about crapping his pants to get out of the draft then lies about it. Tells people about visiting Saddam  Hussein’s master war room, seeing his gold toilet and taking a dump in his bidet, (starting to notice a theme here.) I could have done without hearing about his Caitlyn Jenner’s boy toy fantasy but hey, if he wants to share…

Lesson learned, don’t try and take on someone out of your league Ted.
One of my adolescent music crushes after Suzi Q.

Always liked JJ, but the truth is neither of them belong on any "greatest guitarist" list....

I see these online all the time and they always include absolutely horrible picks. One that I see a lot, actually uses Keith Richards' photo on the title.....

He isn't even the best guitarist in the Stones, FFS.....

Kinda like hearing Tommy Lee is one of the best drummers. Which I used to hear as a kid.

He can groove and has done some fun drumming stunts on tour but I could play his songs when I was 13.

Now Danny Carey from Tool for example...I'm still trying to figure out where he keeps his third and forth arm.

The thing about those lists is that they're geared toward the casual reader, which is why they feel they have to include "name" musicians, even if they're not exceptional.

Billy Cobham is a good example. Phenomenal drummer, but most people have never heard of him. Same with Alan Holdsworth on guitar. I can pretty much guarantee his isn't on that list that JJ was on, even though Eddie van Halen once said AH could do more with one hand than he could with two....

You’re right about JJ of course but any chance to stick it to the Stuge has to be enjoyed.
