IF not that day, then the time after leaving Swartz Bay on the Queen Of Saanich, had to turn around as it was too rough for her, despite her 426 foot lenght. In Jervis inlet, by the mouth of Sechelt inlet, we were tasked with doing a search for 2 missing Coast Gaurd auxillary trainees. 4 people set out to do training, but their zodiac capsized, and only two made it to the surface. 2 ladies, training to help mariners, perished. Sometimes these stories have a happy ending: https://www.nauticapedia.ca/Gallery/Les_Palmer.php Quote Every call different, every call answered. One outstanding rescue involved the Larissa – a 45 foot Canadian shrimp boat that capsized in Grenville Channel with two crew aboard during a ferocious storm on January 27th 2004. The two men managed to scramble onto the rolling hull, grab and activate the EPIRB ( emergency position indicating radio beacon ) and tumble into their inflatable liferaft. The waves in the channel were upwards of 15 feet in height and flipped the raft over. One man dove into the water to right it and became tangled in the lines trailing from it. In desperation, he dropped his pants to free himself, got back into the flimsy craft and somehow, it was pushed ashore. Thus began a seven hour ordeal for the two as they huddled in minus degree temperatures, poorly clad and without adequate shelter as they had pulled the raft on shore and sought some slight refuge in it. The EPIRB signal was picked up by the non-geostationary international satellite system Cospas–Sarsat dedicated to EPIRB activation detection. The alert was passed to the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre in Esquimalt BC and they tasked the Point Henry. The Henry departed Prince Rupert in a snowy blizzard facing ferocious winds. Visibility and sea conditions were at their worst. During their difficult transit, a passing freighter called to report they had seen what might have been a flashlight blinking from shore on the Pitt Island side of the narrow channel. It took three hours of slogging through deteriorating weather for the Henry to reach the men’s location. And that was only the beginning of the rescue epic that earned Les Palmer the Cross of Valour, only the 20th Canadian to receive such an honour for bravery. His efforts: landing the FRC at the only boat-accessible beach a half mile from the suffering crewmen, crawling through waist-deep snow and dealing with extreme freezing temperatures to give aid and affect rescue under such trying conditions truly deserves national recognition. The City of Prince Rupert also gave commendations to the crew of Point Henry for their combined exemplary display of selflessness and determination. I know Les Palmer and I have to say that the thing that really strikes me about this story is that hardly anyone knows about it. (He isn't the kind of guy who goes around talking about himself) Les is quite the athlete (which how I know him) but when I talk to people on the football or baseball fields, almost none of them know this story. His two sons, also terrific athletes were actually surprised that I knew about it.
RUPERTKBD
Wow .....this guy is an Uber POS..... https://www.cnn.com/2021/04/28/australia/pusey-sentencing-australia-scli-intl/index.html Quote An Australian court has jailed a man for 10 months after he drove dangerously and then filmed and mocked dying police officers at the scene of a deadly crash. Richard Pusey was charged with reckless driving, possession of drugs and outraging public decency through his subsequent actions, which the sentencing judge in Victoria's county court described Wednesday as "heartless, cruel and disgraceful." There was no trial after Pusey pleaded guilty last month to all three charges. He attended Wednesday's sentencing via video link from prison. The 42-year-old was speeding on a Melbourne freeway in his Porsche 911 coupé in April last year when police officers Lynette Taylor and Glen Humphris pulled him over, according to court sentencing documents. Two other police officers, Kevin King and Josh Prestney, arrived at the scene shortly after. Pusey was under the influence of cannabis and MDMA at the time, according to the documents. All four officers stood outside their vehicles in the emergency lane while Pusey urinated on the side of the freeway. A truck towing a trailer veered into the lane and struck the police officers, fatally injuring them. After the collision, Judge Trevor Wraight said in his sentencing, Pusey purposefully walked around the crash site filming and taking photographs of the dying or dead officers while giving a running commentary and zooming in on their injuries. Pusey's phone was seized by investigators and the video, which lasted more than a minute, showed one officer on Pusey's Porsche as her arm hung through his sunroof after the truck had crushed her legs. Another officer's leg was jammed between the truck's bullbar and his sports car. As other witnesses tried to help the injured, Pusey could be heard in the video saying that this was "justice" and that he'd have to get an Uber home, Judge Wraight added. Pusey did not help the victims himself, and instead began a second, longer recording, zooming in on an officer's name tag as other witnesses asked him to stop what he was doing. He continued to focus on the officers' injuries even after other witnesses had covered some of the bodies in blankets, the judge said. Pusey fled the scene and later showed the video footage to staff at a drugstore and general practitioner's office, before sending photographs to three people. The former finance broker had a criminal history that included numerous driving offenses, according to court documents. In his sentencing remarks, Judge Wraight stressed that Pusey did not cause the deaths of the four police officers, but that what he did was "extremely insensitive and heartless." Even though he didn't kill the officers....somehow 10 months just seems way too lenient for this scumbag....

RUPERTKBD
Sad news out of Kazan, Russia: https://www.msn.com/en-ca/news/canada/school-shooting-in-russia-kills-9-people-suspect-arrested/ar-BB1gBDGb?li=AAggXBV Quote A gunman launched an attack on a school in the Russian city of Kazan that left at least nine people dead Tuesday — including seven youngsters — and sent students running out of the building as smoke poured from one of the windows. At least 21 others were hospitalized, six in extremely grave condition, authorities said. The attacker, identified only as a 19-year-old, was arrested, officials said. They gave no immediate details on a motive. But Russian media said the gunman was a former student at the school who called himself “a god” on his account on the messaging app Telegram and promised to “kill a large amount of biomass” on the morning of the shooting. Attacks on schools are rare in Russia, and President Vladimir Putin reacted by ordering the head of the country's National Guard to revise regulations on the types of weapons allowed for civilian use. Four boys and three girls, all eighth-graders, died, as well as a teacher and another school employee, said Rustam Minnikhanov, governor of the Tatarstan republic, where Kazan is the capital. Footage released by Russian media showed students dressed in black and white running out of the building. Another video depicted shattered windows, a stream of smoke coming out of one, and the sound of gunfire. Dozens of ambulances lined up at the entrance. Russian media said while some students were able to escape, others were trapped inside during the ordeal. “The terrorist has been arrested, 19 years old. A firearm is registered in his name. Other accomplices haven’t been established. An investigation is underway,” Minnikhanov said. Authorities said the 21 hospitalized included 18 children. Authorities announced a day of mourning on Wednesday and canceled all classes in Kazan schools. Authorities tightened security at all schools in the city of about 1.2 million people, 430 miles (700 kilometers) east of Moscow. Sounds like an Adam Lanza clone.... Nuxfanabroad
Regarding these Middle East issues, there is interesting analysis on the myriad problems with today's presentation from "The Duran"(episode 969). As they frequently present viewpoints contrary to the mainstream western-propaganda, part of me wonders how much longer Youtube will allow independent voices, like the two Alexes? The 82-year-old patient was supposed to have his left leg removed on Tuesday, but doctors instead amputated his right leg above the knee, which the hospital, the Freistadt Clinic in northern Austria, blamed on "human error." "We are deeply shocked that on Tuesday, May 18, despite quality assurance standards, the wrong leg of an 82-year old man ... was amputated," the clinic said in a statement, Reuters reported. The man is suffering from "numerous medical conditions," the hospital said, and past sicknesses caused the need for amputation. The hospital said that error began before the operation, when a worker incorrectly marked his right leg as the one to operate on. They realized the issue two days after the operation. "It was [Thursday] morning, in the course of the standard wound dressing change, that the tragic mistake, caused by human error, was discovered," the hospital said, according to CNN. PEOPLE has contacted the Freistadt Clinic for further comment. I was going to say something about an impending lawsuit and then something about "not a leg to stand on", but that's a bit too easy..... ....oh...and also...Too soon? Gurn
3 year old shoots 2 year old- with a gun LEFT "HIDDEN" IN A SOFA . https://www.msn.com/en-ca/news/world/toddler-finds-gun-in-sofa-accidentally-shoots-young-sister/ar-AAKhcMv?ocid=msedgdhp LAKELAND, Fla. (AP) — A 3-year-old boy accidentally shot his 2-year-old sister after finding a gun that had been hidden between sofa cushions by a family friend, Florida authorities said Saturday. The girl was in “exceptionally" critical condition, said Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd at a news conference. After the girl was shot, three men in the home at the time scooped up the children and jumped in a car to drive to a hospital. On their way, they got into a crash with another vehicle, causing several injuries. The girl and one of the adults was taken to the hospital by a good Samaritan who had stopped to offer assistance after the crash, Judd said. The gun was brought into the Lakeland, Florida, home by one of three men who had gathered Friday night to watch TV, authorities said. Kevonte' Wilson, 23, told investigators he had placed the gun between sofa cushions so that it would be hidden from the children. He was arrested on charges of failing to safely store a firearm, carrying a concealed firearm and possession of marijuana. He could face other counts, Judd said. The home's owner, Chad Berrien, 24, was charged with possession of marijuana and maintaining a house for drug use, the sheriff said. Judd said a Florida crime victim's privacy law prevented him from saying how the children were related to the adults in the home. An online court docket showed no cases for either Wilson or Berrien on Saturday, so it was unknown if they had attorneys who could comment. Judd said everyone was cooperating with detectives. The boy was taken by the Department of Children and Families and placed in the home of his grandmother. “There was no reason to think that this was an intentional act," Judd said. “He was a baby playing with what he saw as some kind of toy." RUPERTKBD
What are people's thoughts on this story? From what I can tell, the Belarusian military hijacked an Irish Airliner, so they could arrest a political dissident: https://www.msn.com/en-ca/news/world/journalist-arrested-after-belarus-military-forces-ryanair-flight-to-land/ar-AAKimXI?li=AAggFp4 Quote A Ryanair jet landed in Lithuania after the Belarusian military forced it earlier on Sunday to divert to Minsk, where authorities arrested a journalist who covered protests against President Alexander Lukashenko. The Boeing Co. 737-800 carrying scores of passengers from Athens to Vilnius was diverted to the Belarusian capital under the escort of a Mig-29 fighter jet after its crew was notified by authorities in Minsk of a “potential security threat on board,” a Ryanair spokeswoman said. Authorities boarded the plane and arrested Raman Pratasevich, the former editor-in-chief of one the most popular Telegram news channels in Belarus. Pratasevich wasn’t on the plane when it took off again, Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda said in a recorded statement. An adviser to Belarusian opposition leader Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya said Pratasevich, 26, had been bundled off the flight in Minsk by police. “At first he panicked, then calmed down a bit, but still was trembling. He said he’ll face the death penalty here. He was taken aside, his belongings dumped on the runway,” Franak Viacorka said on Twitter, citing passengers. You have to wonder if they would have had the stones to do this if Pratasevich had been on a US, UK or German flight..... 1
Gurn
All international trade to Belarus should be cut off till the man is released and safely in another country. And charges along the lines of "international piracy" or whatever comes close should be pressed against those that participated in this criminal act. 1

RUPERTKBD
The US has slavery as it's so-called "original sin"....and we have this: https://www.msn.com/en-ca/news/canada/remains-of-215-children-found-at-former-residential-school-in-british-columbia/ar-AAKsKoo?li=AAggNb9 Quote KAMLOOPS, B.C. — The remains of 215 children have been found buried on the site of a former residential school in Kamloops, B.C. Chief Rosanne Casimir of the Tk’emlups te Secwépemc First Nation said in a news release Thursday that the remains were confirmed last weekend with the help of a ground-penetrating radar specialist. Casimir called the discovery an "unthinkable loss that was spoken about but never documented at the Kamloops Indian Residential School." She said it’s believed the deaths are undocumented, although a local museum archivist is working with the Royal British Columbia Museum to see if any records of the deaths can be found. Some of the children were as young as three, she said. The school was once the largest in Canada’s residential school system. "Given the size of the school, with up to 500 students registered and attending at any one time, we understand that this confirmed loss affects First Nations communities across British Columbia and beyond," Casimir said in the release. The chief said work to identify the site was led by the First Nation's language and cultural department alongside ceremonial knowledge keepers, who made sure the work was done was in line with cultural protocols. The leadership of the Tk’emlups community "acknowledges their responsibility to caretake for these lost children," Casimir said. Access to the latest technology allows for a true accounting of the missing children and will hopefully bring some peace and closure to those lives lost, she said in the release. The reclamation work was paid for by a Pathway to Healing provincial government grant, she said. Casimir said band officials are informing community members and surrounding communities that had children who attended the school. “This is the beginning but, given the nature of this news, we felt it important to share immediately,” she said. The First Nations Health Authority called the discovery of the children's remains "extremely painful" and said in a website posting that it "will have a significant impact on the Tk’emlúps community and in the communities served by this residential school." FNHL C.E.O. Richard Jock suggested the situation had the potential to affect First Nations people in BC and across the country. "That this situation exists is sadly not a surprise and illustrates the damaging and lasting impacts that the residential school system continues to have on First Nations people, their families and communities," Jock wrote in his web post. The FNHA said immediate supports for Tk’emlúps Nation have been identified through its Interior health team, and its teams are on standby to support further needs. The agency said some of the supports currently available include the KUU-US Crisis Line, Tsow-Tun-Le-Lum Society and the Indian Residential Schools Survivors Society. The Kamloops school operated between 1890 and 1969. The federal government took over the operation from the Catholic Church to operate as a day school until it closed in 1978. The Truth and Reconciliation Commission issued its final report on residential schools more than five years ago. The nearly 4,000-page account details the harsh mistreatment inflicted on Indigenous children at the institutions, where at least 3,200 children died amid abuse and neglect. Yet another chapter in one of the most shameful stories in Canadian history.... 1
