We may not agree on a lot but I think we can both agree that a man who peacefully protested is not worthy of such scorn. He tried to do his best to not have his message be taken the wrong way by consulting with a military veteran on what would be the most respectful way to protest. He followed the advice to a tee but he has still been demonized, just way too much hatred in the US. I’m 100% with you on this topic for sure. I don’t understand the visceral hatred some people can display for another person like Kaepernick. In my view, he’s done nothing wrong. If anything, he should be applauded for his efforts to bring to light inequality, and unfairness. It’s a bloody human decency thing to accept others, isn’t it? Sometimes I chuckle at what could be considered a racist joke. For example my favourite punk rock band NOFX, their frontman Mike Burkett, known as fat Mike is a hero of mine. His ability to link words and the way they make me feel is unbelievable. He preaches that we care about each other , the planet and mocks religion and politics, things I believe are control mechanisms. Any way I purchased their latest CD Backstage passport. Mike is of Jewish ancestry and states this in his songs and on stage. In between songs he banters. In one of these episodes he jokes , why did Hitler take his own life ....he got the gas bill. His best mate Melivin then replies , you should not joke about this my dad died in a death camp ....hell fell off a guide tower. Should I be offended because he joked about something terrible ? Does it make it all right that Mike is a Jew and making a joke about something terrible that happen to his people ? I have no answers to these questions but I do know this as long as one treats others the way they want to be treated themselves that is the best one can do. While I do not totally agree with premise that people are easily offended ,like all human traits , there are some humans that seem to be offended by the simplest remarks. I think nofx gets away with what they get away with because they are self deprecating and make fun of everyone equally. They are/were a punk rock band and at the end of the day the idea behind punk is essentially a middle finger to those who try to control.

I was thinking about this as was pruning on my farm on a beautiful spring day here in the dandenongs. I believe it is the intent that matters. Does one intend to cause hurt/ harm or is one just taking the piss. It also adds context when one takes the piss out on oneself. Listen to my Mike's song on their last record, last ditch effort ,the song is called , I don't like me any more. I take the piss out of myself , I might not be smart but I can lift heavy things , big hands big feet , big Wang , 2 outa 3 ain't bad but mother nature ripped me off , got big feet and hands. That is one of the things that appeals to me about Trey Parker and Matt stone they take the piss out of everything including themselves. The episode where they take the piss for taking out of the episode of taking the piss episode of chef leaving says it all

There are also many people who 100% support Kaep but they aren't being heard. The reason they aren't being heard is the very reason he protested in the first place. It's just a vocal minority that is bothered by Kapernick pushing for a positive change.

RWMc1
There are and were many black people who serve(d )in the American military. Why do their viewpoints not matter in this debate? Maybe they should take out "The land of the free" from their anthem!

I feel Kaps message has been lost and its become such a political stance now when I don't believe it was ever intended to be that. Am I wrong and just not seeing the bigger picture or do I just not care that he wouldn't "stand" because he felt there was an inequality and brutality? It was never to dishounor the flag or country, yea he only lost millions of dollars and never his actual life like the soldiers who have fought for our freedom and lost everything so we could have everything we do, I just don't get why the hatred has become such a big deal. Besides the person who the right has co-opted into their campaign against Kaepernick would have been fully supportive of his right to kneel. ‘He would be the first to kneel’: Pat Tillman exploited to attack Kaepernick, biographer says Quote A fellow soldier in the Ranger Regiment told Krakauer about a conversation he had with Tillman in 2003. “[Tillman] said, 'If get killed, I don’t want Bush to parade me through the streets to use as a political tool,’ ” Krakauer said. “And of course, that’s what Bush did.” ... "As a football player and soldier, Pat inspired countless Americans to unify," Marie said. "It is my hope that his memory should always remind people that we must come together." "Pat's service, along with that of every man and woman's service, should never be politicized in a way that divides us. We are too great of a country for that," she wrote Surely we can respect Pat Tillman and his widowed wife's request to not politicize his death.
