I watched Smokey and the Bandit so many times with my brother growing up that we knew basically all the dialog and quote it to each other all the time which gets laughs from the other but sails over most other people's heads.

He made driving cars fast look fun.

RIP Burt.

Reynolds was a fabulous athlete too.  Guy was a corner-back for Florida State.  I really like him in the Longest Yard, because he was an actual player turned actor, and not an actor pretending to be a player.  I saw Deliverance too.  What guy hasn’t seen that movie.  I haven’t seen any other movie with Reynolds, but feel like I’ve seen them all.  He was super popular at one time.

He was a running back.

Burt Reynolds: You're kidding me...

Sterling Archer: I know... drives me nuts... like the world's slowest elevator.

Burt Reynolds: You should get a bat-pole.

Sterling Archer: Nine thousand bucks.

Burt Reynolds: What?

Sterling Archer: Lowest quote I got.

Burt Reynolds: Well that's ridiculous.

Sterling Archer: Basically just putting a pole where the garbage chute already is, but the co-op board was like "but what do we do with the garbage?"

Burt Reynolds: Yeah but you could still throw it down the... whatever... the same shaft.

Sterling Archer: I know!

Burt Reynolds: And then you'll have some garbage to land on.

Sterling Archer: If you're coming in hot, I know. It's a win-win.

Burt Reynolds: And you were gonna pay for it yourself...

Sterling Archer: Yep.

Burt Reynolds: No assessment or anything.

Sterling Archer: Yep.

Burt Reynolds: Ridiculous.

Sterling Archer: Preaching to the choir buddy.

I thought he played defensive half-back?  Maybe he did both?

Nope.  He was a running back.  The only reason he never made it to the NFL was because he busted up his knee while playing in college.  Back then they couldn't do much for you like they can now.

Wasn’t a high paid job back then either.  The CFL actually were able to outbid for some players like Joe Theisman to play for the Argos instead of Miami.  I wasn’t around but I believe the CFL & NFL had some “friendlies” ( exhibition games between some teams)

NFL wages used to be terrible.  Often players would have second jobs in order to pay the bills.  Kind of like lacrosse and especially professional womens hockey of today.  There's a Chinese/Canadian womens pro hockey league and a US based one.

This is crazy, I never realized he was 82. Time flies. Loved Smokey and the Bandit and Cannonball Run when I was a kid. Norm MacDonald does a heck of an impression of Burt, RIP Bandit.

When he lands that plane in the middle of that town and acts like its no big deal in Cannonball Run is one of the most BAMF scenes in a movie. The world has lost a legendary man.

I saw a lot of Gunsmoke reruns when I was a kid.

He was always Quint to me.

Really liked him in GS.  He had great chemistry with Arness and would have been a more realistic 'side kick' for Matt Dillon than any of the others he had.   His presence would have had an everlasting influence on the show.

I read somewhere that Reynolds regretted leaving GS so early, as he loved the cast and enjoyed working with so many great actors (the show had an unbelievable run of fabulous guest stars).
