Tom Sestito
Crazy. By far the best GM in the league. Detroit has suffered due to Holland's incompetence the past few years.. huge upgrade!

Would be my #1 choice of anyone in hockey today to run my franchise. Will be curious to see the #'s...who's currently the highest paid coach/GM ? Babcock ? Nmind...guess Babcock @ 8m/yr Seems GMs aren't readily publicized...prob good idea. Apparently Holland taking over in Seattle ? His family lives in Detroit. As for working for the Red Wings - maybe. Holland to Seattle was a rumour before he signed a 2 year extension this summer.
captainhorvat
Watching the live presser. Yzerman will remain as senior advisor.
nuckin_futz
Apparently it's family related. Sounds like his family remained in Detroit all along. He'll be the next GM in Detroit at some point. Still it's a rather odd time of year to make this announcement. With training camp around the corner. bigbadcanucks
53 years old...multi multi millionaire with golf membership at the Hunt Club in Ottawa and Red Tail outside of London and probably places I wouldn't even heard of...Olympic gold...multitude of accomplishments as a player...position a team to win it all as a hockey exec...HHOFamer as a player and probably a builder...Order of Canada... Not sure if there is much more Stevie Y needs to complete on his bucket list in the world of hockey. I knew Stevie Y as a twelve year old when we played in a hockey tournament in South Winnipeg (obviously our hockey careers and lives went different directions, though I am living a comfortable and chilled life as a semi retiree in White Rock) -- even as twelve year olds, there was no doubt in my mind that he was destined for greatness. One of the few times I have cried as an adult was when I was in the clubhouse of the golf course at Falcon Lake, Manitoba in the spring of 1997 watching Steve Yzerman lift the Stanley Cup for the first time. That was one of my top five memorable sports moments of my life (other four in no particular order -- the Mike Weir win the Masters 2003...1987 Canada Cup 6-5 win...Magic Johnson's jersey retirement in 1992...Winnipeg Jets winning the Avco World Cup with Bobby Hull, Anders Hedberg, Ulf Nillson, Lars Erik Sjoberg in 1976). Hands down, one of the top hockey players/execs of my generation. Stevie Y, I salute you.

IBatch
Maybe he just wants a break. Never really took one after his playing days were over. Kids get older, siblings, parents etc, maybe he just wants to spend quality time with them all the time. A GMs job never stops for holidays or even sleep (see Bergiven Patches deal), sure it can get draining. His teams window is wide open at the moment, for awhile last year they were unbeatable and that shouldn't change (if anything they will actually get better as the second wave hits their prime, Point, Sergechev, Vasilevsky etc) ...TB has the most talent of any team in all positions by far. Only WNP and WSH come close..
Drakrami
Stevie Y so classy, even the handover is classy lol. With 1 year to go, he advises for the next year to groom the next GM, all the while leaving behind one of the best teams in the NHL.

Funny how people just love where they live and don't want to move. I get maybe kids dont want to switch schools. But damn, you think his family would just want out of Detroit and move to Tampa Bay. Anyways, Hats off to the man for putting his family first.
