Granlund isn't good at anything and is below average in everything. We've seen enough of Granlund the last few seasons to know hes just a roster spot that contributes very little from night to night. I'd rather have Goldy on the team, at least every few games you'll see something special rather than Granlund whos just in the lineup to not make any mistakes and just keep the wheels spinning

Not only did they shut down the top players in the league, they dominated shift after shift. Had that entire line not suffered long term injuries, who knows what they would have done. To me, that sounds like a player you want in your lineup, regardless of the role you need filled. For sure. there’s a place for him on this current lineup... until someone better comes along. Also, So far that 19 goals is the anomaly on his career... .... and that line got demolished by injury yes, but wouldn’t you say that lines success was more of a product of how Dorsett and Sutter were playing? Problem I see with this logic, is yes he was asked to play this role, thus excusing the lack of ability to generate offence, but he was not driving that lines success, not could he drive anything steady offensively or defensively after he lost his linemates. i do agree he’s a bonified NHLer and should be able to find jobs around the league... but likely mediocre teams... and as a placeholder. Im simply not confident that he has anything more to show. I hope I get proven wrong, but I’d say he is absolutely on the hot seat if one of their new signings have more value in a bottom 6 role, while Horvat,Boeser, Baertschi, Pettersson, and 2 others are better options in the top 6... could be virtanen, dahlen, goldobin, leipsic, eriksson... I would like to see him given the opportunity to center Pettersson and Dahlen in camp tho. Put him in a situation where he should be able to put up offence... and play a smart defensive role, but I suspect eriksson would be given first crack here.... or maybe they continue with Lind... so much to decide in so little time! Not directly related to the interview but Goldobin will be battling for a spot at camp. Really interesting quotes from Goldie. It seems the kids realize it's time to take charge. A positive sign for sure. Let's hope those words equal some on ice action. The guy excites me as much as any of our stars and I pray and hope he just finds the stamina and wil/determinationl to add hard work to his limitless talent. Baertshi though maybe not as talented was similar but found the grit and stamina to fight to play his own game in the end and so too, hopefully will Goldy. An on fire Goldobin to me, would be like having a Nick Backstrom in the line-up. I hope he realises just how much we fans are willing him to succeed. Baertschi-Horvat-Boeser Leipsic-Sutter-Eriksson Roussel-Gagner-Virtanen Schaller-Beagle-Granlund Goldobin Edler-Stecher Del Zotto-Tanev Hutton-Gudbranson Pouliot-Biega I actually expect the team to be along these lines. Especially if EP plays as laid back as he did in the young stars. I do hope he gets a chance though as there was no denying his quality when he played in Sweden. I see Sautner edging someone out on D. I was very impressed not only by his play but his willingness to be physical.

Anyone remember why Edmonton signed Lucic? I have serious reservations about playing EP against Perry, Tkachuk, Kassian and whoever else. Playing the long-game, not some ticket sales ploy that would see a young kid-star get hurt and become injury riddled from the daily cross checks to that skeleton-looking physique. Save him for when it actually matters to this expansion team looking rebuild roster. I agree, so much so, I went and watched a few more youtube vids of him. He has a slippery quality which might get him out of tight spots but will it work as well on the smaller ice surface? I think we might see Gaudette and maybe Dahlen stick but even that would mean some controversial waivers.

Some actual toughness on the roster. All that toughness won’t prevent contact with EP though. EP is not Jonny Hockey small. He’s JH-small stretched out most of another foot, so he is even more gangly and exposed. While he’s battling for the puck he’s vulnerable. Those are hockey plays that require no retaliation. We will find out soon enough if the 195lb 4th line scrapper is going to prevent Getz from leaning on EP. Edit I’d like to see a Lippy EP JV line. Roussel can play up the line if required. I think he did occasionally for the Stars
NUCKER67
That roster is a little depressing, but we won't know anything until camp is done and players have been evaluated. I think Green was letting the 20-something players and veterans know that they won't be given a job based on what they did last year, and that there are some prospects who are too good to keep in Utica (Pettersson). Out of the prospects, I think Pettersson is the only one who makes it on opening day. They're going to want to start selling Elias merch right away and entice more fans to show up to games. Why was Linden let go? Apparently because he wanted to slow things down and concentrate on slowly developing. Ownership wants to sell merch and tickets, and show off their new toys. I see Granlund going to Utica.

If we were to project these potential lines out 2 years suddenly this looks like a legitimate NHL squad. The additions of Roussel and Beagle really add some experience to the bottom 6. I find this year's potential roster far less depressing then any other in Jim Benning's tenure. 40 minutes ago, NUCKER67 said:

Depressing, as in: a lot of us want to see Pettersson in the lineup, and maybe even Dahlen, Goldiobin and Leipsic. Canucks have young players/prospects who are very talented, but there isn't room for them because guys like Gagner, Granlund, and Schaller are taking roster spots away from them. I see other teams every year bringing in their young stars, but Canucks Nation is so worried Elias will get man-handled by the jerks of the league, they feel it's better he play in the AHL. If it takes another year of waiting, then so be it. I can wait, but seeing a roster filled with UFA veterans doesn't get me excited.

Leipsic/Goldobin, Horvat, Boeser Baer, Pettersson, Eriksson/Virtanen Roussel, Sutter, Eriksson/Virtanen Schaller, Beagle, Granlund Gagner, Goldobin/Leipsic There. Pettersson, Goldobin and Leipsic on the roster with a chance Gaudette/Dahlen make someone else expendable sooner than later. Having Edler - Gudbranson as a pairing out with whatever line that Petterson's on should help protect Elias. I have a feeling that Gudbranson is going to be a force this season, taking his role as protector very seriously, and any players who try funny stuff with Petterson, Boeser, or other skilled players are going to regret it.
