The Dahlen and Eriksson Connection

The Sedins were wonderful. However, only Burrows was the answer to their play, save for a Carter stint.

The Sedins were stoic machines of strength. No one really gelled with them as we thought one day someone would; a third Sedin.

Not a knock on them at all; just an observation. I would say that the Berruzzi - Morisson - Naslund was much more fun and dynamic to watch.

However, rare is a line that could dominate like the Sedins could, cycling for minutes on end; literally.

I think the youth and talent Pettersson and Dahlén would bring to Eriksson should be enough to kick start a steady production to the end of his contract.

Gonna have to disagree with WCE being more fun to watch than the Sedins.

Do you not remember when they would dominate for entire shifts? Through the leg blind passes... Goals... Many players had success with the twins other than Burr.

Don't get me wrong, I think WCE is arguably one of the most Iconic lines ever assembled in hockey but they dominated for a much shorter period of time than the elite superstars the sedins were. (see my post about how 2002 canucks led by WCE were the most underrated team of all time)

Plus, the WCE were all drafted by other teams; they weren’t home-grown.  I see the Twins as ours.  It’s the same as Dahlen and Pettersson.  They are ours from the start, so we can watch them develop.

Yup. Again no disrespect for the WCE... I think 2001-2004 they were one of best lines ever assembled in hockey... But to say they were superior to the Sedins is a little silly.

Definitely hope this new Swedish trio can form a dominant line and bring Loui out of his 2 year slump

I think the poster was referring to how fun they were to watch...I remember a video that came out about Bertuzzi during their hey-day timed to “the Watuzzi”, showing him obliterating guys, one arming them and bull-dozing his way to score an amazing goal.  One year they scored  100 between them (not including Morrison) ... it was fun to watch for sure.   The Sedins were better but also peaked for a short period (Naslund just missed out on an Art Ross by one point, but did when the Lindsay/Pearson and was the best left-winger in the world for four years).. both were awesome to watch for different reasons.

edit:  I’ve never figured out how to add a picture or video to these posts but if someone out there can find that song/video of Bertuzzi doing the “Wattuzi” (which is some African ox) and add it for me that would be awesome...

My wife named her farm truck “Big Todd”.  She named her sports car “Pretty Marcus”.  She called me “Little Mo”.

Really so Eriksson is going to stick up for Dahlen and Pettersson LOL it would be a heck of a lot better to have someone with size and grit, try anyone of Sutter, Beagle, Schaller, MacEwen . A center with grit. Not Eriksson! Just because Eriksson is a Swede doesn't make him a fit.

i think its more how Loui scores in front of the net and EP makes things happen more to the outside but sure the Swede thing.....

You bet, there is something about having home grown drafted talent like Bure and Linden, the Sedins, Jovo, Ohlund, Edler etc that makes them a little special, even if they move on.  Beiksa...I guess Kesler too, and now we have a long list of new guys highlighted by Pettersson, Dahlen (thank you Burrows!), Hughes and of course Horvat (thanks Schnieder!), and Boeser.

Late round gems are the best though, guys like Hansen and now maybe Gaudette rock even more because they aren’t expected.

As far as the WCE goes, we got that team as a result of the talent that was traded by the Linden team...Bertuzzi, MaCabe, Jovo, Morrison, Naslund etc came from Linden, Bure, Mogliny and ... chuckle ...Stajanov.   Without tearing it down and rebuilding like that the WCE days would have never happened.   Point is when you trade a good player and get as much or more back it feels great, and with the exception of Jovo (Bure was sooo much better) things worked out far better than they could have (we won big time in Linden and Stajonov).  So those guys are pretty special too.  Naslund was all Canuck IMO, same with Bertuzzi and Morrison..

You can't really say one line is better than the other. Although the Sedin duo dominated much longer than the Naslund-Bertuzzi duel. The lines played differently too. Naslund played more with finesse to go with Bertuzzi's power, the Sedins are more the wear you down by dominating entire shifts. WCE were more flashy but the Sedins were more cerebral.

Lol, Sutter is an enforcer now? Wasn't he the one that said that rookies need to stand up for themselves?

Either way, if those two need constant protection they're not ready for the NHL.

Maybe not Sutter, but what if a Pettersson / Dahlen become a dynamic duo and other teams start putting their best (and biggest) checkers on that line?  Better hope Guddy (or Biega!) is on the ice at the same time then, because a 19 and 20 year old would be at a disadvantage simply because of physical maturity.  I just don't see Eriksson transforming into Dorsett if things got ugly out there.

You mean like the way having McSorley and Semenko around to provide constant protection for Gretzky meant that Wayne wasn't ready for the NHL?
