Yes because hockey is played the same way now as it was in the 80's...

Yeah, I'm sure that these days a team with young 170 pound skilled players doesn't need any muscle on the team to prevent other teams from intimidating and abusing them, because that doesn't happen any more.

How did having Lucic on the top line work for the Oilers?

You're living in a different era if you believe you need a tough guy in the top 6.

no one said anything about a Knuckle dragger just someone who can handle himself. MacEwen , Schaller,  Type player not Eriksson

Yep, I think the Sedins basically brought cycling game in hockey to a whole new level. The way they cycle the puck was not based on strengths as say, Perry and Getzlaf but relied more on accurate passing, timing, and reading the plays, in particular, recognizing open space and so on. This made it hard for the opposition to anticipate where the puck is going next.

They needed someone smart. Burrows was the only player that could actually keep up with those two.

The key to the cycle game is still puck possession under pressure.

The Twins just like Getzlaf had to put big defenders on their hip, not get knocked off the puck. Then manoeuvre & deke, so you could pass to another (Twin) cycling. Who also miraculously picked the puck up off the boards, the passes were not always tape to tape. Win the puck, while under pressure. By pre-positioning your body and starting with the defender already pinned to your hip. So you had best access to the puck.

Nobody in history mastered body positioning, pinning their defenders, on and off the puck IMO. To gain position on the boards! Dino Cicerelli, a small guy was closest, could always hold a position in front of the net.

Constantly, not especially quick, time after time they had just enough speed to always get to the ideal position. Knew how, they were smart, and had the strength to hold off bigger guys. Rolled off them with possession. Could always twist and manoeuvre their skates the opposite way that the defender was pushing them & break away.  With the skill to make plays under that pressure in tight. Over and over.  Miraculous core strength! It was still pure strength, as much as they did not bull their way to the net as Perry did.

And equally miraculous endurance. Doing it, they probably scored more goals 1 & 1/2 minutes into a shift? Than anyone since changes on the fly became routine. A minute into a shift, those big guys draped all over them were gassed.  Then suddenly they were actually much quicker than anyone on ice, scored goals at will.

Pettersson btw is also a master of using his body position and strength. Even though he is skinny.

He is tall, and stays upright like the Twins, where most, see Arvidsson in Nashville, get low & use a low centre of gravity. Has remarkable agility on his skates so when players push him when he has the puck? The push always opens him up to the play because he is also a master at using body position. The push always leaves the defender in an angle of difficulty. Opens up a lane for Elias. And he's quicker than the Twins ever were. Shoots like Daniel, better, it's a rocket and passes with near the nift of Hank!

We're in for a treat! :frantic:

Yah because teams don't intimidate weaker players I guess no one watches the playoffs

Lucic cant skate but just having him around is a deterrent Pettersson and Dahlen need a big winger who can play center as well thats not afraid. Sutter maybe should grow some balls. If not find someone who can.

Anyone notice Eriksson showing actual emotion at the presser when the presstitute asked them about being a bottom 3 team?  He looked pissed.  Frowned.  Crossed his arms.  Looked at his mates.  Then stared down the so called journalist that asked the question.

He is going to have his best season as a Canuck in 2018-19.  I feel it.
