The other team I like to use for comparisons is the Winnipeg Jets.

Mark Scheifele was drafted seven years ago.  It has taken that long for the Jets to build the team to what they are today, and they still aren't quite there yet.  So I can totally see 2022 as a year where the Canucks finally start becoming competitive.

And they've drafted well - necessarily.

Scheifele's draft they also picke Adam Lowry in the 3rd.

Trouba and Hellebuyck the following year.

Morrissey and Copp in 2013 (Petan still a possible NHLer).

Ehlers and a few longshots in 2014

Connor, Roslovic and a longshot or two in 2015.

Beyond Laine in 2016 too early to tell.

But if you can hit at a consistent 2 draft picks a year turning out, you're doing pretty well with drafting and development.

Thus far Benning et al certainly appear to be on pace.

Totally agree.

I just like using them as an example that it takes time and that success isn't instant.  Too many video game GMs think you can turn any team into a contender with a few unrealistic trades.

I believe Quinn Hughes is the key piece needed for us to (finally) celebrate as fans a Canuck's Cup.  I see us winning 3 Cups between 2021 and 2030.  That's 3 parades, and 3650 days of celebratory drinking.

If it's OK with the rest of you, I'll start my celebratory drinking right now.  It will be a nice change to my 'drowning my sorrows' drinking of the past and the 'bottles not empty yet' drinking of a few minutes ago.

Surely the jury's still out on our goalie prospects? Considering how important they are for a cup run, isn't that a pretty big missing/unknown part of the puzzle?

Jury's are always out on goalies until they consistently dominate the nhl on a regular basis. To have dipietro and demko in the system is lucky even if they haven't proved anything.

It took Ovechkin and Backstrom 13 years on the same team, losing playoff rounds, and multiple other defeats to finally win the Cup.  Heck, the Caps didn't even make the playoff for 4 consecutive years from 2003 to 2007:  Now they're cup champs.

A Canuck Stanley cup in 2030 is not out if the question with Horvat, Petterson, Boeser, and Huges as seasoned vets.

Let's enjoy the ride and enjoy seeing our players turn into NHL stars.

But it took the penguins 4 years from when Crosby was drafted.::D
