Wilbur
We've got to do something but this is a rather draconian way to do it. Just as politicians aren't the best scientists. Scientist don't necessarily make the best politicians.

Just another way to both profit and control. They ran out of ways to rob and manage every aspect of people's lives, so why not simply tax the air they breathe? Ghostsof1915
This is why the Earth is doomed. Because the people with money and power are loathe to give up even one cent. Millions of people will start dying and the 1% will not care as long as they stay rich.

Raymond Luxury Yacht
Taking wealth from the world's richest, or even attempting to even the wealth gap, would result in civil unrest and violence that would slow or stop any initiatives to control the climate. We're already past the tipping point, and we will see a mass extinction event, in fact we are in one now. Those focusing on the political aspects are completely missing the point. SabreFan1
Yeah, one thing that this report doesn't take into account is human nature. If the current billionaires gave up their wealth, there would be new people trying to take their place in order to start the cycle all over again. If you tax people and businesses an exorbitant amount they'll just move their wealth and business to a lower taxed region. You can try a flat 90% estate tax but the same thing will happen. People will just claim residency in the lowest estate taxed country so that when they die their family keeps as much of the wealth that they can. Short of turning the entire planet into a strict communist system, the rich will continue to try and become as rich as possible. It's just how humans are hardwired. Tortorella's Rant
Funny how surrendering some of your wealth seems to be the only way to "save humanity." From the mega rich prick, to the feeble peasant, if you aren't taking a hit in the pocket book, you aren't doing your job. I absolutely loathe carbon taxes particularly and especially when that tax revenue is not re-used in "green projects" and the idiots promoting these things fly around the planet in their private planes and 20 car motorcades. That G7 in Quebec earlier this year proves my point: that could have all been accomplished via Cisco Webex and print-to-PDF, but instead they in a collective effort, generated more carbon emissions than you or your family could ever manage yourselves all to assert that you need to pay more money. I'm all for a cleaner environment, but the climate change crowd is effectively becoming a cult.

peaches5
The world is overpopulated why give up your money when you can build something underground and live safely there while the earth is cleansed? That's the cold hard truth.

I'm not saying go to an actual communistic state for the planet. I'm saying that short of implementing a strict interpretation of that system, there will always be people who amass wealth for the sake of amassing wealth. Strict Communism will always fail though because there is no incentive to work in a system where everything is shared equally. That then goes back to my original point of the scientist's recommendation being a pipe dream. There's just no good way to implement it. Our nature as humans prevents it.
