My thoughts on the game:

-          Gudbranson was inconsistent—some great plays and many dumb ones

              -   Edler was the same story

-          Stecher had some quietly strong moments

-          Motte was great on the PK and otherwise

-          Gaudette looks good and is creating chances

-          The Killer Bs all played fairly well, but couldn’t connect often enough

-          Sutter had a few great moments defensively

-          Goldobin continued playing hard and creating tons of chances

-          The Caps simply greatly outclassed the Canucks in all areas this game

-          Nilsson was mediocre—not terrible, but still not good enough—I fully expect to see Markstrom next game

My Thoughts:

- Canucks don't win enough 50/50 puck battles. This is very costly.

- This is the best I have seen the Capitals play this season (I have gamecenterlive and I watch games regularly around the league). They play with discipline and structure. Their best players were their best players and they play a very well structured 200 foot game. And when the defending Champions plays like the Champions, don't think many teams could get a win out of them.

- Canucks are really missing both EP and Beagle. EP runs our powerplay and Beagle is the key for our PK. Not a coincidence that our special teams play dropped since they both went down.

- Refs completely ruined the game with that phantom tripping call to Stecher which led to the Ovechkin goal. It is a very unnecessary penalty. It ruined the fun of the game. It isn't the reason why the Canucks lost, but it takes away the fun of a game.

Meh, nothing to get worked up over necessarily. Just the Capitals being a better team than the Canucks currently, as well as being pissed off from the loss to FLA last game. But we need Pettersson back for some much needed offense.
