It would be a great chance to build 1000s of new social housing units left over from another olympic village. Really, aside from maybe money for the airport expansion some highway work and minor things. A new athletes village is really the only thing that will be needed to be built. Would be a great way for the GVRD and lower mainland municipalities to squeeze the federal government for a billion or two towards sky train expansion further out than surey If Vancouver wants in, knowing that we won't have to spend even a 5th of what was spent leading up to 2010 why not

Horgan too. The airport expansion project is already underway. I drive the 99 a lot and honestly it doesn't really need much. I just wonder if the IOC would see it as a 'too soon' kind of thing tho. I'm not sure how they could. China literally just held the games and are holding them again 2008, 2022. The idea of a near cost free games is great. Vancouver and BC net nearly $2.3 billion by most economic reports after the $7 billion cost. Imagine a cost of $2 billion or less and a $5+ billion boost to the economy. Bill it as a near green games in that we haven't let our venues rot and won't have to build much
KyoNami
Realistically, I totally understand why Calgary voted the way they did. There were definite, real concerns, and I think it was good that the people were the ones who were able to make their voices heard. However, being a sports fan, I am sorely disappointed. As a kid in elementary school during the 2010 winter games, I adored the Olympics. I really think that the games inspired me to take sports much more seriously in my own life, and I definitely can say that it really taught me to dream big. I'm so lucky to be able to say that I was able to witness these games in my life, in my city, and I think that would have been amazing for the next generation of Calgarians. Who knows, there could be a future Olympic gold medallist inspired due to the games! But honestly, it's Calgary. What do you expect?

Might as well get as much needed infrastructure (whatever that may be) from the Federal government $$

That's about what I'm thinking. Would be an absolutely massive winfall for the GVRD and lower mainland knowing the vast bulk of the infrastructure is already in place. Any investments could be made to ensure rapid transit is properly in place planning for the future

Having recently hosted the Olympics and needing no new major infrastructure one has to wonder if this isn't a bad idea really. I'd vote yes to that. Wouldn't mind breaking out my blue volunteer jacket again either. I'd say build the villiage in Richmond/Delta and get the feds to pay to extend the canada line to steveston, replace the tunnel with a bridge + rapid transit, and connect the ferry terminal with steveston canada line station via rapid rail shuttle (i.e doesn't have to be skytrain) with stops at tswassen mills, etc. Or build the village in north van and get the feds to subsidize extending expo line via tunnel to londsdale, cap U, then west to park royal. $$$$
