[Proposal] Dallas- Vancouver

Neutral

Recommended Posts

4th line grit is needed imo, so take a flyer on Brett Ritchie from Dallas? Sounds like he would be cheap to acquire. Least if we need someone to fight its not going to be Guddy and his 4m salary having to do the job. Roussel aint much of a fighter or definitely wont be challenging bigger guys where Ritchie is willing to go with anyone.

To Vancouver:

Brett Ritchie- RW 25 yr old 1.75m rfa end of year

To Dallas

Brendan Leipsic- LW 24 yr old 650k rfa end of year

Or

Tim Schaller- LW 29 yr old, 1.9m 1 year after this left

Whats wrong with Schaller?

He kills penalties, can skate, chips in 15 or 20 points. Ritchie barely scores more than that. Does not have the same wheels.

We don't need a meat hook goon. Green does not appear to mind a fight. But he's less apt to ''instruct'' retribution than some coaches. Which is fine by me, BTW.

CDC has too many miniature Don Cherry's. That think a kid from Saskatoon missing three teeth, or Kingston, who barrels & intimidates deserves a job.

Its too big a focus IMO.

hes 1.9m who has already become a scratch, what does that say? This proposal is about moving out retread players we have for someone who brings an element we dont have in our F group.

If your happy watching the Canucks players get hit around and nobody willing to do something about it, that's your choice. I am just advocating we try to get a guy who isn't afraid of the rough and tumble part of the game. Its not a major move or a major issue to have someone like him on our lineup. I think we have too many soft and or smaller players on our team is all.

So why not trade 1 bottom feeder plug we have for someone who is bigger.

Like Roussel

The guy who falls down and kind of turtles this year? I like Roussel and his game dont get me wrong. I watched him at the youngstars as a Canuck and wanted us to sign him way back then. But Roussel is not a fighter that can take on bigger guys. He does a good job and happy he is a Canuck tho, hope he gets back in the line up soon

I don't agree with you, Roussel will fight anyone..Did you not see the fight when Roussel challenged Gudbranson when he played for Florida..

Roussel will fight anyone....

How long ago was that...Did he not have a chance earlier this year to fight someone who was mad at him? I dont remember who it was but I was disappointed he didnt drop the gloves.

I believe is willing to drop the gloves and fight but I dont think it is going to be against "anyone" at this stage in his career

Didn't he just return from a concussion?

No Roussel isn't a fighter per se.  He has an edge though, similar to Burrows.  He has sandpaper, gets under the grill of the opposition.  He's not going to kick the crap out of anybody but what he does works for me.

fwiw, this was a response to a plea for somebody who didn't need to be told to agitate.  Roussel is that guy.

For sure I like Roussel and hope he can play in the top 6 to add some sandpaper in that group, he or Virtanen if not both should be up their over Eriksson and Gagner.

I think Ritchie could be a serviceable big body guy to have at our disposal vs a smaller guy like Leipsic.

Ritchie has 1 point, played 14 games, with 9 minutes 50 sec average TOI.

Schaller has 4 points, 24 games, 12 minutes 41 sec average TOI.

Who is sitting more?

???

Salary? Schaller is $1.9 mill, Ritchie $1.75 mill. Much of a muchness.

As for happy about us not being the broad street bullies. Talk to the coach. Schaller fought Gudbrandson last year.  The difference? In Boston they wanted guys to go fight anyone who laid a hit against them. Your wish. Roussel also got in more fights in Dallas as well. How many has he had this year. One? Talk to the coach. I'm not saying I want us to be pushovers. But that trade means we have a forward big enough to take on Matt Martin. Not harder to play against anywhere else.

In the meantime Schaller is faster, kills penalties & hits. Can handle match ups defensively. Still 210 lbs.  I have no need for more guys that slow down the team. That's more important than what Ritchie does better. A PP specialist who does not PP.

Roussel used to fight anyone, not so sure he’s as willing anymore.   He’s not a very good fighter, there are far losses on his card than wins and on hockeyfights.com they rank pretty low too.   Not sure if it’s the injuries or that he probably knows this is his last contract in the New NHL as he will age out when this one is done and be replaced with someone younger who is willing to fight more add sand paper etc, you know all the things he did to earn his spot on a roster in the first place.  He’s got wheels at least, some offense and P.K. abilities, and he’s definitely better than nothing.  Hopefully something will inspire him to do what he used too....but I’m not holding my breath.

Its clear you like Schaller. To each their own. I was just looking at a player with size who may turn into a power forward with grit, its a shot in the dark but if he didnt pan out you could walk away from him this summer and he could become a ufa

I like guys who play with speed. And tempo. Puck pressure. Admittedly Schaller is not a wizard with the puck himself. But those other attributes lend very well to the play style Green wants. Todays NHL.

Ritchie is better with the puck. But it means literally nothing if you cant, or don't skate hard. See Kassian. Very similar player. Teams that have these players, give them minutes? Are dying.

In a perfect world you want Vegas style 4th line guys. Nosek, Carpenter. They skate, but also pack intimidation. Part of that is they can ice 3 or 4 guys who are Schallers size. 6'3'' 210 lbs. Plus Reeves 225 lbs. Who skates and fights better than Ritchie. Not 180 lb Leipsic on the opposite wing. But Vegas's best depth player is, IMO Bellamare. 6'1 about 200 lbs by memory. Endless motor. The key is team speed and work rate. Size if you can get it.

We're getting there. Virtanen, Roussel, Schaller. My solution would be sign Wayne Simmonds next summer. Cant take on Reeves weight class. But anyone else. Would give Horvat a battler in the trenches that can keep up. Score some goals. Perfect 2knd line, 3rd line RW. 4th line when he's 33, 34 in a few years. Lots of energy.
