Will it be the shiny new FA toys? Doubt it.

you mean trades before the wednesday trade freeze? it could be. A Schaller for Burakovsky trade would be neat.

I think Biega will be waived again and they'll go with 14 Fs, so thats space for Sutter. Gaudette probably gets Utica time after that.

Very likely, predictable even.

I wonder if Goldy would be a fit with Malkin?

189 - do any of those trades solve the problem of too many roster players?  Also, are we in a position to trade Hutton at all?  Edmundson would weaken our d line.

Ya, that’s not a carefully crafted post, as I tried to convey there. If there are too many players, that’s a trifle situation easily resolved by several obvious options, not that I am sticking up for my playful trade suggestion post.

Hutton, IMO is never going to be as good as trade bait as he is today.

I’ve never liked his game, no secret there. Same with Goldy. I see that the posters here have rallied behind him this year and I remain as one of one posters who is eager to see him fattened up on this gravy diet and traded.

It’s a personal preference. Time will tell what Hutton truly is. My crystal ball says we’ve seen the best of him and can expect a return to the familiar, cozy Hutton on a new, fat wallet. Again, it’s a personal preference that I’d like to see both he and Goldy traded.

Our D can’t get any worse, but it could get tougher to play against, so I disagree that it’s a downgrade. Feed Edmundson that same gravy diet before you say that. Also, with Guddy always on the IR, the team needs a guy like Joel to knock heads when required. He’s a better 2-way Dman than Guddy, IMO.

Hutton has been making the most of his opportunities, which resemble the ‘CoHo pad-and-trade’ strategy and I’ve wondered if Goldy wasn’t on that gravy diet too.

While we’re on STL, Tarasenko for 7.5m for the next few years is a nice bridge player who could score goals fed from EP the way that Kessel has in Pittsburgh with Malkin/Crosby. Hey, one can dream.

Without figuring in injuries, I see something like this:

with Sutter

Leivo-Pettersson-Boeser

Goldy-Horvat-Virt

Rousel-Sutter-Eriksson

Granlund-Beagle-Motte

Schaller

Gaudette goes back to Utica

Next, adding Baer:

Goldy-Petersson-Boeser

Baer-Horvat-Virt

Leivo-Sutter-Eriksson

Rousel-Beagle-Granlund

Motte rotates in; Schaller is either waived, traded or we go with 14 forwards

I think the first grouping is quite likely. The second, not so much. One...how often do we actually have a full compliment of healthy forwards? Almost never. Two, and this is the one that I fear; Baer not coming back. He has a history of concussions, and by now he should have responded to treatment. Yes, he is skating with a non-contact jersey, but until he is actually allowed contact in team drills, we don't know if/when he will come back. I personally have had 3 concussions; to this day, I still do not remember 2nd grade. It is a total blank. Also, I have pretty bad tinnitus, and mild Meniere's (easy dizziness); both are after effects of multiple concussions. I'd rather see Baer walk away, if there is ANY doubt in his mind about his future health. Just look at Junior Seau, or Mike Webster (center for the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 70s, for you younger people); that or just ask Andrew Alberts.

Also like the idea of mid-season deal. We don't know what other GM's will sell/spend, precisely. But find a team underperforming(Canes, Philly, types) who have an excess, where we lack. Young, talented D perhaps?

If they run into a goal drought, or some injuries, maybe we can deal 2 or 3 pieces for a nice fit in 1 player?

Would pursue such a notion with Ottawa, who I believe, should try hard to avoid the basement.

Not sure if this even matters, but having goldy here would help with the reintegration of tryamkin also?

I still hold out hope that tree comes back when he's finished his contract over there

I'm hoping he can get out of his KHL contract next summer already.   KHL is famous for its weak contract protections. That or its about slipping a few rubles to one of Putin's stooges.  We really need back end help. We have an ok D.  Hutton has improved, and also, I'm surprised to say that Edler has been a rock, for the most part. And he's getting better at dishing the puck to Brock. But both he and Tanev are wearing down. Neither will be around when we are legit. I like Stecher, and hope he sticks around, but because of his size, he's probably looking at #5 or #6 on a contender. I hope he proves he can hold a #4 position though.

So we have a couple of maybes in Hutton and Stecher, a couple of past their prime soon in Tanev and Edler, and the rest would not be on a Cup contender's top four.  IMO we only have one D we can pencil in for our future more seriously competitive team's top 4 D, and that's Quinn Hughes.  But I think Tryamkin could be a second.  But then we still need more help back there.  Still not sold on Hutton, and worry about Stecher's size, especially on a playoff run.  I think its imperative that JB lures back the Tram.

I don't think we will see Baertschi for awhile unfortunately.  He has a serious concussion, one that could put him out the entire year if not career ending.  As for Sutter, I don't think he will be back until January, in which case he will most likely take the spot of the next injured person.  If everyone is healthy then I think they waive Schaller.  I don't see Gaudette getting sent down at this time.  He looks like an NHL'er right now.  He does need to improve his game in certain areas but he can do that with proper NHL coaching and through practicing with the big club.  He doesn't necessarily need to get sent down as most of his improvements are things he can work on with the big club.

If there was a way to get even a mid-level return for someone like Baertschi, I think Benning should take a long hard look at it.    Honestly I like the kid, but this is a business and I think we've seen the upper end of what he can bring to the club.

The real question is...do the Canucks treat this like a business and try to get something for him, or do we do what we traditionally do and hold onto a guy for too long.

I think those are very likely scenarios

he's still in a non-contact jersey, but he is practicing with the team.  That means, unless he has a set back, he's likely back soon

I'm into double digits, likely, for concussions and I don't seem to have any issues.  Everyone reacts differently though.

Don't see them trading Sutter unless its for an offer they can't refuse...

He can play C and Wing better than Granlund, and while I like Granny, I see Sutter as better cover for the various positions.

No chance they even consider trading Sutter, imo.

This was always Bennings intentions...to fill the team with a strong supporting cast in order to let the youth get their wings and learn how to fly.

And Sutter fits the bill perfectly...just like Beagle does.
