Yah,  if AB and Sask left ... the Canadian tractor pull circuit  / chewing tobacco taxes....  would be decimated..

I agree with @canuckistani but to play along here I'd be more in favor of AB and Sask  forming an alliance and forcing the City of Vancouver into a Hong Kong type scenario.  Or maybe Ab and Sk could just form an alliance with the states along the Keystone pipeline route to the gulf coast.  Coastal loons can be left to themselves and the migrant caravans of course.

Yeah the Canucks and the Fraser River fishery are all Vancouver really has to offer to the rest of BC.... at least one of those things is in the toilet so would we really lose out if everything this side of Hope broke up with the lower rainland????  :bigblush:

No your already dump hole of a city surrey would fill up with even more meth houses. But I’m sure your already used to that.

I find it fun to bash Surrey too, however, you're wrong. BC is a "have Province". We can support ourselves, thanks.

Alberta isn't going anywhere - lots of chest beating and whining but fact of the matter is they have had how many years to attempt to diversify their economy yet they rely on oil which is boom or bust. I live in Alberta and the fact that unskilled workers were making upwards of 25 bucks an hour and skilled workers were making north of 50 an hour and p*ssing it away with no thought of rainy day funds etc leaves them with no one but themselves to blame. Everyone had to have the biggest truck, biggest house,  recreational toys, etc. If  BC doesnt want the pipeline send more south or go thru the Territories etc. Its easy to run a pipeline through the vast flatness that is the prairies but once mountains and various terrain comes into play it changes the risks and safety. Fact is the ones who want cheap oil is the Asian market and no one wants to have pipelines run through some of the most pristine wilderness in the world. Adding tanker traffic to the port of Vancouver seems ridiculous to me when we should be looking at building our own damn refineries employing our own skilled labour.

I agree 100% that Alberta gets screwed federally and that needs to be fixed but solely relying on energy without exploring alternative sources of income is not the solution either.

Whats in it for BC?

First off, as BC I'm holding out for more than 50% of the revenue from any oil shipped off the coast, so right off the bat you're worse off. But lets say you REALLY hate Ottawa and agree to my 60/40 split in BCs favour.  At todays, and the foreseeable future, pricing when its all said and done we're probably talking 1 billion per year extra to BC, which may or may not be enough to offset the risks and pay the cut the first nations and angry fishermen will demand

But lets say I'm feeling generous and I agree to take AB to the cleaners.

You now have to face the reality that you just teamed up with about 2.1 million NDP+Green voters.

So oil gets shut down anyway.

Lets face it, you're one land-locked sh!t-outta-luck cowpoke.

Well then we'll be further ahead giving $1B to BC instead of transferring 10x that much to Ottawa to pay Quebecois Welfare...

Oooohhh did I start something there?

But but but we've already got our first president lined up...W.Brett Wilson!

Wait! What do you mean a guy from a TV reality show would make a lousy President...oh ya...right, I see your point...

I would consider Western Separatism is it meant NO more Leaf Games on forced upon us here in BC.

I can't believe we are only allowed to +1 in a thread...I say +1 Billion to you sir!

Honestly, this was kinda why I started this thread (other than the fact that Wilson is currently fanning his peacock feathers towards Ottawa over this).

Eastern media bias (ooohhh "look what Auston Matthews had for breakfast" is the headline story...meanwhile there's a "hey, this Pettersson kid out in Vancouver might turn out OK" story buried on page 35)...just sayin'...

Before anything like this happens, the US, China or Russia will take over us for our water.

Yup...next world war will be waged over fresh water...and Canada has more of it than the rest of the world combined (minus what Bennett sold to the US of course)...

You can support yourselves because there is a tax on everything. Pst, msp, tolls, carbon tax, icbc, etc.

But we don't &^@#ing whine about it. Only people from Alberta whine about BC's taxes.

It's a small price to pay for beauty and splendour.
