Watching McDavid again tonight I can’t believe how fast he is. Like, how can a human being skate like that? I don’t think anyone is the history of the sport had ever skated like that all the while making plays. How does he do it? Is there any science behind this, his skating is truly something that is not comprehensible

Motte was an awesome pickup.  He willed his way into the lineup in the preseason and his motor hasnt stopped.

I just love talking hockey with my buds who, prior to the season, were adamant that Beagle, Roussell, and Motte were not needed while I defended the signings. And by talking I mean smiling and nodding (1/4 smug) every time one mentions how good of a game one of the three is having.

Ya man, I saw a game out there vs. Washington recently and he was notably so much faster than everyone else on the ice. He's ridiculously fast

I'm on record here in fully endorsing the free agent signings though Schaller to date has been disappointing but Motte in the Vanek deal as been awesome. I liked him over Leipsic that's for sure.

Got stuck with the Oilers Sportnet broadcast as the only choice on gamecenter. Terrible play-by-play and totally biased commentary as usual. Not sure if it was a national broadcast feed or regional, would be sad if this is how they do things if it was broadcast across the nation. Missed Shorthouse today for sure!

Glad that the ‘guys with the fish on their chest’ (as they put it) stuck it to them Oilers. Go Canucks gooooo!

2 out of 3 ain't bad. It was worth it just for Beagle and Roussel, honestly. Both those dudes are much needed pieces in our young lineup.

EP40 is sick. Even his giveaways were probably based on him expecting someone should be able to read a play as good as him and would get the puck. Like his fancy behind the back passes would have worked if he had say a jack Hughes or Patrick Kane there.

Worked for gaudreau today because he has people people who can read his plays properly. That’s why we need to tank and get him someone crazy enough to play with him.

Quinn Hughes is on his way.

Can't wait till he makes jump to NHL to see the magic they create.

Biega is actually an awesome 8th D man. Even though he is small the guy is not scared of *&&^ and he plays his heart out every game. He made no mistakes tonight. I love Beiga and hope no one claims him when we have to send him down again.

This type of player is the reason you give a contract that is too rich for what he does. So you don't lose him through waivers imo.

Biega @ 3:02

Just watched Hitchcock's postgame. It's  sad that he is starting to blame the losts due to injuries. And he goes in detail how injuries are affecting  the team. Like seriously? Hitchcock - it just means your  team sucks and doesn't have depth, stop making excuses

Don't think kive ever recall our team blaming ours losts due to injuries. Such a disgrace. So glad we are not the coilers

Coffey and Orr ... McDavid is fast and smooth, but both of those gentlemen were much smoother when they were flying, and quite speedy when they put their minds to it, deceptively so in Coffey's case.

Remember on July 1st and the comments about the Roussel and Beagle signings? Remember when we traded Vanek and some were like "who?" and I remember many wanted to keep Vanek and were quite upset about the trade.

Can we finally not jump the gun on Benning's moves anymore? His drafting, trading and FA signings have all been questioned and aside from a few errors (no GM is perfect), he has done well in every aspect as a GM. Even contract signings like Horvat and Virtanen for example have been incredible.

Great TEAM game.

I know everyone is talking about Pettersson's line, but I think you have to give credit to Beagle and crew... they really took it to Oilers... great forecheck and double teaming with Horvat against McDavid's line were crucial in shutting down them in even strength play.  Beagle is really showing how good a defensive center he is... basically we have two excellent shutdown lines... Horvat or Beagle.  I wish John/John had given Motte a star, he doesn't get too many chances and he deserved it on behalf of his line.

...

On the Defense end... the whole D Corps played well, with perhaps some gaffes from Pouliot... although he did get an assist.  But the real workhorses were Edler and Tanev... when both of them are healthy and playing together, they are among the better defense pairs in the league.  Edler is really on top of his game right now... being physical, getting his stick in to deflect shots or passes, and getting the puck out of the zone efficiently and effectively.

I think the major part of the reason why Edler and Tanev have been so great all year (other than them being healthy for good stretches) is that the team around them have gotten much better. The recent additions of Beagle, Motte, and Roussel have given the Canucks another shutdown line in case Sutter gets injured. Likewise, we don't have an inexperienced Horvat going up against top opposition like in years past, as this year Horvat has taken that next step in his development. Further, Pettersson is no slouch defensively (*cough*hankanddanny*cough) and can hold his own. Hutton and Gudbranson have finally developed into bona-fide Top 4 defensemen that management was waiting so long on.
