Sorry but there is no getting use to a broken wrist or cracked ankle. You can be as tough as you try to be but injuries are a physical fact not a state of mind. Players know that. Do players hang back from going into corners with Guddy and Edler because they are not mentally capable? NHL players have seen it all by the time they reach the NHL. They often avoid going into those corners because of the real threat of being injured. Regular season games might not warrant that risk. IMO that is why CUP play is a totally different season. The plays are all more important and players more willing to take the risk to have success.

Why do NHL players love the enforcers? Every time they engage in a fight they run the danger of permanent physical damage. Broken faces or concussion. I am actually surprised that a hockey player has not been killed in a fight. Soldiers are taught how to kill with one blow to the face.

Never said that, and never thought so neither... You know as well that come play offs he is going to get treated far nastier than now.

My point was, if someone has to drop the mitts every time somebody give a 'soft' crosscheck to EP or BB in the middle of the ice, we will PK most of the time.

EP actually initiated the incident to get the reaction. Love that...

Don't want neither EP or BB to fight at all, but I don't want them to hide neither. We got enough players on the team that can jump in if it is needed.

PS. I agree that it could very well end up with someone getting seriously injured or worse... But things won't change until that happens...just like the Bertuzzi incident...

Maybe I was coming across wrong. I agree with you that come playoffs the rules change and refs let a lot go. That said the physical risk is always there and protecting key talent is necessary.

Even in the heyday of the enforcer, there was no protecting, just punishing and even that didn't stop the Kenny Linesmen's of the league from doing there thing.  I'm all for a good beatdown, I made my bones in that role, but it doesn't really stop things from happening.

Is it ust me or is Pouliot having fewer brain cramps? Not saying it still doesn't happen. The potential upside with Pouliot is his offence. He shots off the point are usually dangerous. Both Beiga and Pouliot play stronger games with a stronger FO center. Better puck possession.

When he does have brain cramps they are huge. One nasty one last night where he gave puck away right in front of net. Markstrom bailed him out.

I am a bit Pouliot supporter. I think he could be something. Glad he still gets to play. But holy $&!# he freaks me out at times.

I agree, when he gaffs, he does it in spectacular fashion.  But, almost all the dmen have bad giveaways, even Tanev, it's just that DP is this years chosen one and you dare not make mistakes when you're Canucks "fans" chosen target, no matter how many good plays you make in a game.

Everyone fawns over the Flames and how they have reacted this year.  Which got me to thinking, how effective can it be if you have to cite numerous example of the Flames sticking up for their teammates.  Sure, I guess the optics are great, but clearly it's not a deterrent.

I'll give you that Alf... I was behind WD as well, and think in general comparing WD and Green is like comparing apples and oranges... Hell of a difference in squads...

With regards to LA I think they been cheating the fans...just like Chicago...

Different teams but different coaches too.

one has played 970 nhl games over 14 years.

Not much commentary on Edmonton’s Russian goalie being ventilated for 4 goals on 6 shots.

He hasn’t been very good lately. I took 10 minutes to read the (whopping) 5 pages on the Soilers message board. Some commentary about his vulnerabilities becoming common knowledge around the league. Some are yearning for the Talbot of old to re- emerge (lol).

Fun times in Edmonton.

The more I hear Hitchcock whine about injuries, McDavid (the star) being mistreated and blah blah blah the more I believe the Oilers will always melt down when the going gets tough.

They have no real leadership on that team. Makes me appreciate what Benning has done in that regard by surrounding the young guys with real leaders especially post Sedin era.

Has Edmonton found anybody past the 1st round?!

Half of their team are placeholders and long shots. Brutal.

They need to trade some of their high end guys for some meat and potatoes players. Pullijarvi should be traded to St. Louis for Bozak and Bouwmeester.

Too big of an age gap but I agree with the idea in general

My take exactly , this will be the flame team preview off what their play off form will resemble at post season time . But they have to stay healthy to get there an half a season of games remain.

Canucks have a dream opening last night, sleepy 2nd period and wake up in the 3rd period.

Marky steal the game for the team.

EP40 is not real, just a little room, he could score and assist team mate for score. The line last night is wonderful, but the best line I think is Beagle line, they did excellent. How can Benning get a crystal ball for Motte?

Biega looks liked the best 8th D-man in the league.

Just shared with my son that perhaps this fourth line may be our best in recent an medium term memory. This will be the kind of line you need to have to go the distance in pursuit of Lord Stanley golden grail

Just noticed this in hockey db

Roussel has equalled his last years point totals already, looks like he is on pace for a career year.

Roussel's a beauty. His interviews are great, he should have a cigarette and a glass of Bordeaux during them.

Sure i agree completely that all D-men have bad giveaways and id take that league wide not just our D, as some believe our D core is fairly inept. I dont believe that to be true.  Ill use Tanev (since you chose him to help your point) as my reasoning to why i believe Pouliot is not all that put together. Tanev has very few giveaways on average a game but takes next to no penalties and makes 20 better plays to make up for those couple. For fun Hutty was CDCs whipping boy last year(his sophmore) for not being able to produce like his first year and not using his size to its potential. And his skating. Not the same this year.I was and still am a huge Hutty fan. I was on board with pouliot as he is a rookie trying to make his way in arguably the toughest position to play especially with this new speed in the game but he hasn't made much if any progress from last year. Points roughly the same, terrible under pressure, give away machine, easily pushed off the puck and makes poor decisions in distributing the puck. Not much progression. He just seems to have 20 bad plays to his 2-3 good. Like i said, just what i see when watch the canucks play, not trying to attack him personally.I always hope to see the best from every player as they play on the best team.
