That's why the Comets are in a pinch. I suspect the Canucks will wait to see if the Flyers waive McKenna in the next week or two after Elliott/Neuvirth come back and go from there. If he somehow plays lights out and snags a permanent spot on the Flyers bench for the rest of the year, I suspect the Canucks will try and acquire another goalie via trade (someone like Zach Fucale comes to mind). That or maybe either Ivan Kulbakov or Alex Sakellaropoulous will play lights out and earn an ELC... that's also a possibility (even if it is unlikely). Drakrami
I dont think Demko is ready, hopefully he proves me wrong and play like a phenom. We will be so amazing with a top 10 goalie.

But it shows there are parts of his game he will need to refine similar to how Markstrom has in his tenure with the Canucks. I think we will see a dramatically different Thatcher Demko come playoff time or at the stwrcof next season. It may take a couple months to iron it out unless he's a quick learner. Rush17
Kevin Woodley goalie expert for in goal magazine. Guy who is from BC. Talks about Demko: ideal starts, games played, adjustments needed, and talks on ^ what I said above regarding demkos reliance on acrobatic saves. https://www.tsn.ca/radio/vancouver-1040/woodley-canucks-should-play-demko-every-7-10-days-1.1235428 A good listen. I don't expect him to set the world on fire the rest of this season, but if he can show to be competent behind Markstrom, then I think we're on the right track. They have Stolarz and Elliot on IR and Neuvirth is day to day so when they get one of those guys back I imagine McKenna gets waived. Go Demko! This. Claiming McKenna is likely a short term solution for them, one they didn't want to dip into the trade pool for. It doesn't help us, but they'll have to move a goalie soon enough. We can claim him back and send him straight to Utica if no on else puts in a claim.

Thatcher will now have access to NHL goalie resources; including Ian Clark's tutelage, which will be awesome for his development.

The true value isn't even in the games he'll play the remainder of this year (though, those will be important too), it's in the fact that he's going to move to the next stage of development. Practicing at the NHL level and working with a fantastic goalie coach. Really hoping it goes well though. I was high on Demko before we drafted him, and when Calgary took Mason McDonald and left Demko for us I was super excited.
