Police in Canada can now demand breath samples in bars, at home

We also have a huge problem with fentanyl.  Wonder if maybe the cops could go knocking on doors of mega mansions to see what's in the basements there, too?  If we're going to start doing it this way, address everything then.   Seems they've got a narrow vision here and if we're going hunting for lawbreakers, how about we catch them all in that broad net?

We had criminals bringing in hockey bags of dirty money ... cashing out millions at the casino.  To fuel that drug trade.  So let's not concentrate all our efforts on drunk drivers.  There are plenty of things killing people out there...how about we target everyone?  They can show up at each and every house to see what's going on.  Seems fair.

Whoa, whoa, whoa... do NOT start messing with BCs economy. ::D

we certainly do, and no doubt many of those empty homes serve in the drug trade.

Not trying to minimise your concerns at all on this, but when you look at how this law is meant to be applied, and when people like Kennedy Stewart and Elizabeth May vote in favour of it, it hopefully helps a bit knowing that MPs like that wouldnt vote for something that was going to take away your rights.

The media coverage of this has been brutal. Most of it is half the story from defence lawyers.

But they did just vote to take away rights, their reasoning is "for the greater public good" but it is a removal of rights none the less.

It sounds to me that the problem is not so much the legislation itself, but what could potentially happen. However, what could "potentially" happen is not necessarily what "will" happen. The police still have to be able to make a case of things and there is still the whole "innocent until proven guilty" assumption.

I'm not saying I fully support this legislation. I don't at all really as I don't like the idea of someone coming to my house to check my breath. However, I don't think this is going to be as undermining as some other people in this thread seem to think. I guess we will find out over time if this means more drunk drivers get caught or if it's about the same but with less privileges for us. lol
