xereau
How many best of 7 series can the Canucks win, or lose during the '18-'19 season? Can they win 4 in a row? 3? They have won 2 (see below) Current series record sits at 4 series wins, 5 series losses. This is by no means scientific, or does it mean anything, other than it being kind of an interesting way to break up a season. It can serve as an indicator for how the team is doing. More relevant than last 10, at least. *********************************************************************** CURRENT SERIES RECORD: 1w - 4L ********************************************************************** CURRENT SERIES STREAK: 0 ********************************************************************** LONGEST SERIES STREAK: 2 ********************************************************************** SERIES RECORD TO DATE: 5w 6L ********************************************************************** List of games, series wins and losses: Spoiler From the start of the '18-'19 Season: https://www.nhl.com/canucks/schedule/2018-10-01/PT/list Wed, Oct 3 VAN 5, CGY 2 W Sat, Oct 6 CGY 7, VAN 4 L Tue, Oct 9 CAR 5, VAN 3 L Thu, Oct 11 VAN 4, TBL 1 W Sat, Oct 13 VAN 3, FLA 2 W Tue, Oct 16 VAN 3, PIT 2 (OT) W CANUCKS WIN SERIES Thu, Oct 18 WPG 4, VAN 1 L Sat, Oct 20 VAN 2, BOS 1 (OT) W Mon, Oct 22 WSH 5, VAN 2 L Wed, Oct 24 VAN 3, VGK 2 (SO) W Thu, Oct 25 ARI 4, VAN 1 L Sat, Oct 27 PIT 5, VAN 0 L CANUCKS LOSE SERIES Mon, Oct 29 VAN 5, MIN 2 W Wed, Oct 31 VAN 4, CHI 2 W Fri, Nov 2 VAN 7, COL 6 (OT) W Tue, Nov 6 DET 3, VAN 2 (SO) L Thu, Nov 8 VAN 8, BOS 5 W CANUCKS WIN SERIES Sat, Nov 10 BUF 4, VAN 3 (SO) L Mon, Nov 12 NYR 2, VAN 1 L Tue, Nov 13 NYI 5, VAN 2 L Thu, Nov 15 MIN 6, VAN 2 L CANUCKS LOSE SERIES SWEEP Sat, Nov 17 MTL 3, VAN 2 L Mon, Nov 19 WPG 6, VAN 3 L Wed, Nov 21 ANA 4, VAN 3 L Fri, Nov 23 SJS 4, VAN 0 L CANUCKS LOSE SERIES SWEEPx2 Sat, Nov 24 VAN 4, LAK 2 W Tue, Nov 27 LAK 2, VAN 1 (OT) L Thu, Nov 29 VGK 4, VAN 3 L Sat, Dec 1 DAL 2, VAN 1 L Tue, Dec 4 MIN 3, VAN 2 L CANUCKS LOSE SERIES Thu, Dec 6 VAN 5, NSH 3 W Sun, Dec 9 VAN 6, STL 1 W Tue, Dec 11 VAN 3, CBJ 2 W Thu, Dec 13 NSH 4, VAN 3 (OT) L Sat, Dec 15 VAN 5, PHI 1 W CANUCKS WIN SERIES Sun, Dec 16 VAN 4, EDM 2 W Tue, Dec 18 TBL 5, VAN 2 L Thu, Dec 20 VAN 5, STL 1 W Sat, Dec 22 WPG 1, VAN 0 L Thu, Dec 27 VAN 4, EDM 2 W Sat, Dec 29 VAN 3, CGY 2 (OT) W CANUCKS WIN SERIES x2 Mon, Dec 31 NJD 4, VAN 0 L Wed, Jan 2 VAN 4, OTT 3 (OT) W Thu, Jan 3 MTL 2, VAN 0 L Sat, Jan 5 TOR 5, VAN 0 L Thu, Jan 10 ARI 4, VAN 3 (OT) L CANUCKS LOSE SERIES Sun, Jan 13 VAN 5, FLA 1 W Wed, Jan 16 EDM 3, VAN 2 (SO) L Fri, Jan 18 VAN 4, BUF 3 W Sun, Jan 20 VAN 3, DET 2 W Wed, Jan 23 CAR 5, VAN 2 L Sat, Feb 2 VAN 5, COL 1 W CANUCKS WIN SERIES Mon, Feb 4 1-2 L Tue, Feb 5 2-3 L Thu, Feb 7 3-4 L Sat, Feb 9 3-4 W Mon, Feb 11 7-2 L CANUCKS LOSE SERIES Wed, Feb 13 7:30 PM PT @ ANA SN1, FS-W Thu, Feb 14 7:30 PM PT @ LAK FS-W, SNP Sat, Feb 16 7:00 PM PT @ SJS CBC, SN, SN360, SN1, CITY, NBCSCA Thu, Feb 21 7:00 PM PT VS. cleowin
Teams that win stanley cups generally have seasons where they win the majority of their 7 game in season series there has to be a stretch of 4 series that a team wins in order to be a stanley cup contender, thats my way of viewing it

Pears
I predict Pettersson and Horvat are going to will the team into the playoffs. Benning will notice the run they’re on right now and make a trade to give them the extra boost they need to get in. With Hughes coming on in March I’ll say we’ll go on a 22-8-2 run to get in. That’ll give us a 45-28-8 record which would give us 98 points on the year.
AlwaysACanuckFan
I think the keys will be whether the goalies can come up with solid performances consistently, and the team remains healthy.

McIlhargey the Lesser
You know who else put it this way? Hartley. Hartley had the Flames playing seven games series all year when they beat us in the first round. Was it 2014-2015? If it wasn't for that I would totally get on board this way of thinking. As it stands it kind of leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Lousy Hartley. Lousy Torts.

CanuckleHorse
I really don’t like our schedule in February so many games in the month I’m hoping we can use some guys from the farm to help keep us healthy.

FijianCanuck
I'm confident with coach greens approach to games. One game at a time and next man up.
rychicken
We are basically on par for games played, so I am not sure that the 14 in 28 in Feb is really much different than other teams - the schedule condenses after the All Star and bye breaks... That said, there are no stretches of schedule/opponents which look terrible....a lot of winnable games on the list. Likely an unexpected rough patch ahead, but the team should remain competitive for a playoff spot well into March...at least

Darryl Sutter was a big proponent of this as well, probably kept the regular season more interesting for the players too.

Random regular season games are against the mean (ie median) opponent in the end, and are random sets of matchups. If this team makes the playoffs, it's likely facing a Winnipeg, Calgary, or Nashville in the first round.... That said though, bring on Las Vegas or SJ or whomever - it would be really fun to upset them - or a Nashville or Calgary in the first round.....and great experience regardless. And failing that, rent Mr Edler to Winnipeg....would love to see a Cup for them - and him. He could bring that back with him July 1st and add it to the swag the hound-dog already brings... Sure would be a nice secret weapon to introduce late in the season. Other teams haven't played against him yet, aren't familiar with his tendencies, and I think he'll make some heads spin with his effortless skating. There are some players I wouldn't mind being traded (for picks or even a young top 6 winger to upgrade on Bo's wing) I feel much better with Demko as the backup, over Nilsson. Canucks have been getting great goaltending over the last 2 months, which has put them in the playoff conversation.
tas
I don't have much to contribute to the topic, but just wanted to give a shout out to @xereau for doing the legwork to present the discussion as he has, since I've always found the "7 game series" approach to the regular season interesting, especially considering how many teams have openly used this same approach over the years, and particularly (it seems, to me at least) teams that are legitimately trying to contend for the cup. is there something to approaching the season this way, or is it just another motivational tool?
