That implies he went through Stage 1 already and if it's similar to the program we have at my employer, if one violates the expectations after the first treatment, they then would be subject to discipline - suspension. That's exactly it. Stage one is out patient care; councilling, AA meetings, team psychiatrist, etc. If that isn't effective, stage 2 is inpatient rehab. I hope they take a look at that in the next CBA. Offer stage 2, not as a disciplinary action, but as a treatment option. Like a player who has an injury and they try physio, but if that isn't effective they move to surgery. Put the player on LTIR while they're in rehab, they can call them "not medically cleared to play" and not suspend them. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
-Vintage Canuck- Posted March 18, 2019 Share Posted March 18, 2019 The NHL has reinstated Austin Watson following successful completion of the NHL/NHLPA Substance Abuse and Behavioural Heath Program.
