Where's Wellwood Posted February 6, 2019 Share Posted February 6, 2019 If you weren't aware, the creator of Spongebob Squarepants, Stephen Hillenburg, passed away from ALS this year. There is a spectacular episode of Spongebob where Squidward forms a band and they play at something strongly resembling the Super Bowl. It's a genuinely spectacular song. A petition on Change.org reached at least 2 million signatures to play Sweet Victory during the Half-time Show in memory of Hillenburg and in support of ALS research. The NFL opted to show about 5 seconds of the clip above, none of which included the actual song, as part of a boring Half-time Show of a boring Super Bowl. The Dallas Stars stepped in to do it right. The screen in the corner is what was seen on the Jumbotron. They even edited the clip to include Stars fans and to make the band uniforms green. Good on ya' Stars.
