Edmonton would rather retain their 2nd and 3 rd round picks and deal Lucic directly to Pittsburgh retaining $3M in salary. Pittsburgh could give Edmonton a 3rd round pick as well and save the 2nd round pick they would give to Vancouver. This would be a better deal for both Edmonton and Pittsburgh but both of them would be stuck with a million more in salary....well worth it to save the draft picks and Edmonton would not be helping out a divisional rival. All of this would be contingent on Lucic waiving his NMC and Pittsburgh accepting that they would likely have to protect him in the Seattle expansion draft if Lucic only agreed to accept the move if he retained his NMC in Pittsburgh. I think the NMC would be a deal breaker for Pittsburgh or any other team for that matter.

My thinking was more in line with Pittsburgh's tight cap then anything, and trying to get Lucic down to a moveable piece...…..Vancouver could even hold a little more needed, that is the idea of this trade. Edmonton has to find a partner for Lucic, and they do not want to move Pool party or their 1st, in doing that, which would probably still have some cap retention on it. I was thinking of Eriksson, and what we would give up to get rid of him, if we were to sign a UFA and be tight to the cap, and/or get him cap down and use him......just a thought They really want him gone
mll
Pittsburgh is all about speed. They brought in toughness in Reaves and then traded him because it's just not how they want to play.
