If we did sign Teves, the ELC would be 1 year in duration ( guessing here ). Really wouldn't be much of a risk.

Correct. I don't understand the logic behind the multiple " no thanks " posts here. Anytime you can add a player and it only costs you money you explore that scenario.

You can never have enough puck moving dmen, left side, right side ? Doesn't matter.

If anything its nice to see this type of player being targeted.

If I recall correctly, that picture was shot over the shoulder using a mirror with the cell phone in Selfie mode...probably the reason for so much confusion...:P

Absolutely nothing wrong with adding a prospect for free.

yup. It looks on paper like we have a lot of depth on the left side but we all know how depth can evaporate in a hurry or be a mirage.

Rathbone is a PMD who plays the left side so I'd say no to this one.  Too much of a logjam now on the left side, we have probably Edler, Hutton, Hughes, Juolevi, Brisebois, Sautner, Rathbone.  That's 7 NHL'ers or prospects right there.  On the right side all we have is Tanev who may be traded, Stecher and Biega and two prospects in Woo and Chatfield.  So Benning should focus on the right side of the D unless he pulls off a trade or two.

If Teves is quality, you don't ignore that simply because of numbers. If he can surpass our depth, that only makes our team better. If he doesn't, then it doesn't cost us anything. If we have "too much depth", then we can look to trade for a position of strength to fill one of weakness if there's a good trading partner.

We suffer injuries all the time, so I doubt we will have too much issue of depth as we are likely to need it.

Does anyone remember how he did at the Prospect Camp from last year? Apparently he attended? Did he stand out in a good way?

I'm a little on the fence about this signing. He's already 24. And he just had a down year at Princeton.

I would have preferred the Canucks signed Cooper Zech who just signed an AHL deal with the Bruins, is a right shot, and 4 years younger.

Teves is probably the defensive version of Griffin Molino.

Corey Pronman has him ranked as the 31st best free agent out there out of 35 for anyone interested. This includes CHL overagers and players and Europe as well. His thoughts are below

"Teves is a mobile defenseman with good hockey sense and vision, but for an average sized defender, nothing about his skill set really stands out and I have questions about how much offense he’ll produce as a pro"

Pronman isn't a scout - he's a googler and a pretender.  Who cares what he thinks?  Not me.
