Agreed. Wonder if Benning is betting on a RHD FA signing or a stealthy Tryamkin return. Hopefully..... Maybe he is trying to corner the LHD market so that anyone who needs one has no choice but to deal with Lefty McBenning and pay BIG.
Bruce Boudreau
The next Evan Oberg.
King Heffy
Long shot but a free prospect is always good and Utica can use the depth.
xereau
Expect a D logjam to develop between now and training camp. Good way to parse out winners. Internal competition. Expecting a UFA and perhaps a trade before then to fill things out.W With Hughes here, Woo and Juolevi pushing, should mean we do indeed have a very different looking D this time next year. Nuxfanabroad
It's hard when monsters like Reaves are allowed to assault your D-men, charging from behind. Sure hope big Nikita returns.

This includes CHL overagers and players and Europe as well. His thoughts are below "Teves is a mobile defenseman with good hockey sense and vision, but for an average sized defender, nothing about his skill set really stands out and I have questions about how much offense he’ll produce as a pro" Well no $&!# mr pronman, that’s why he’s a prospect. He could play in Utica on an ATO but his contract would only start next year. Canucks agreeing to burn his contract immediately was probably a selling point. VegasCanuck
Seems a little strange that we'd sign this guy to 925k for one year (THIS YEAR) and then have to resign him as a free agent this summer. Are we that desperate to test out some new D before the end of the season and see who might have a chance of sticking?

Because of his age, the collective bargaining agreement only allowed for Teves to be signed to a one-year deal, which will expire at the end of the season, leaving him as a restricted free agent. But expect him to be re-signed to a longer-term deal at that point: “If I could have signed him to a longer deal, I would have,” Benning said. burrardstreetbullies
i love what he is doing with the D core. literally fighting for a roster spot now and it will weed the dusters out. literally still waiting for the day loui errikson is put on waivers thou
DrJockitch
I am sorry, complaining of a log jam of prospects is just silly. Good problem to have. We have room for contracts so it isn't like we will be turning down a right D or LW because we signed him. Oh no lets not sign any more centres because we have 5. Just silliness. His ELC had to be 1 year but they could have it start only next season. He could have joined Utica on an ATO. He is a February birthday so he is not going to turn 25 this year. His signing age is 24 regardless of when he turns pro - whether now by burning his ELC, which is what he is going to do, or only next season and instead finishing the season on an ATO in Utica.
