This is demonstrably false.  The reason that it is mandatory to have a Leafs game on in primetime every Saturday night is they pretty much crush every other team in every market across Canada.

Every time the Leafs play in every city in Canada, Florida, Buffalo, Detroit, Pheonix, LV and probably a few cities that I haven't thought of the stadium is half Leaf fans.

We may resent the attention the Leafs get but their fans are loyal, numerous and spread across the continent.

No it isn’t demonstrably false, because while yes Leaf fans are like cockroaches and infest every corner of the continent that doesn’t mean that most fans are Leafs fans. They’re the most popular yes but also easily the most hated as well, so it simply isn’t true to lump them in as “Canadian hockey fans” and not Leafs fans.

Mack has the most team friendly contract in the NHL. 3 more years left..

Avs are going to be a powerhouse got next few seasons.

Makar is a gem too. Fun exciting fast tough team.  Treat to watch.

with Timmins coming soon...two more first round picks this year....to think Cole was available as a UFA this past summer, exactly the player the Canucks needed to make their "D" better. If JB signed him and de Haan, instead of going with Pouliot and Hutton...the Canucks would have been much better defensively.

Their numbers (population) factor in.  Trust me...I know a few Leaf "fans"...don't even watch hockey for the most part then glom on to the playoff bandwagon.  They're the best except they don't even know most of the players on the roster.

I think some of this statement is demonstrably false.  "Half"?  Hmmm.  "Crushed"?  Hmmm.  We're forcefed them, that's all.  If the other teams got the exposure we likely wouldn't hate them or resent them as much.  They don't deserve all the attention they get...they've sucked for some time now.  Why should we care how many people support them?  I want to watch exciting hockey, not the Golden boys who think wearing a Maple Leaf means they represent Canada.  There are a handful of other teams that represent THEIR portions of this country that get swallowed up in the Leaf blower.

Displaced Torontonians are no more loyal than the rest of us...if they were, they'd stay "home" in their beloved city.  Can we send the ones here back?  They seemed to have lost their way.  Besides, I tend to think we have the best/most loyal fans.  We're not even IN the playoffs and our fans stick around and talk hockey long after others have gone away....

My Mom grew up in a small town in Ontario. She grew up in the Original 6 era, and OHL hockey. She was not impressed with the quality of play in NHL once they went to 14 teams plus. But she was never a Leaf fan. I guess she was more a junior hockey fan.

Before we had a team, my Dad fished on a boat that was chartered out to the Leafs....until then, he'd cheered for them.  But he said they were obnoxious, rude and that was it...he switched over to the Habs until we got a team.

Your Mom is more a true "hockey" fan and that, in part, makes my point.  Many Leaf fans that I know want to be part of the scene more than they actually support the team and follow the game.  They want to wear the jersey and somehow claim Canada as their own.

Guy is great, but what happens to him in the playoffs?

As I stated earlier...I think ego got in the way of hard work.  I think this team's heads are growing bigger than their game and that's an issue.  A sense of entitlement and "greatness" that has to be substantiated and supported.

Playoffs are an absolute war and they didn't come prepared.  They thought they'd just flick their hair, glide around and be awesome.  Johnny's whining plays against him more than it helps him...refs get tired of that real quick.  Which is why I love Petey...he doesn't do that.  He gets up, brushes himself off and goes back in there to grind away.

You have to accept missed calls in the moment...because you get left behind if you're sitting there, shrugging at the refs.  The play moves on and your team has to make up that deficit because they're down a man if you're distracted and not engaged.  Johnny spends too much time checked out.

I'm watching the SN/HNIC post game show. 5 mins after Canada's best regular season team being eliminated they shift to Leafs/Matthews talk.

What a kick in the nuts. And MacLean tried to make it seem like Toronto is a 'bright side' for 'Canadian hockey fans'. Most Canadian fans outside Ontario want Toronto lose right now, or get destroyed against CBJ.

Personally emotionally i kinda want to see a TOR-NYI series in conference finals. Tavares vs his old team would be a good storyline.

But with that said I have caps in my draft so my brain wants caps for the repeat.

I think had more to do with time and space. Playoffs is a different beast all together. This is lesson on why you can’t just go pure skill, you need those players to open up that space so the skill players can be effective.

It’s why Bennett was put on the top line yesterday and it resulted in Johnny getting a ton of chances, he just choked on his opportunity. Flames needed more of that spread throughout there line up.

And honestly I think Canucks need the same thing as well. I think we’re stacked will skill but we need a player like jake to step up and become the player we expected at the 2014 draft. And we need a few more of those types as well.

This is what makes me feel good about Benning's plan...while he focuses on skill, he also focuses on players who are gamers or last guy in the gym types. I think that kind of mentality is ideal for the playoffs. Canucks may never be a great regular season team as currently constructed but I think they will do damage in the playoffs.
