He definitely needs to listen to what Brian Burke has been saying,. Burkey did have a position in the office of the NHL at one time,. If Bettman was a better man, and think pragmatically he would drop his arrogance and “little man” bravado, and listen to a colleague with more experience in this great game. That’s how things change for the better. what did Brian say? I like Brian and Torts

SingleThorn
Under my simplistic system, NJDs would have moved up 7 spots, so still end up at #1. NYRs would have moved up 5 spots, so #2 again. Chicago would have moved up 3 spots, so #9 instead of #3. The Canucks would stay at #10 !

Burkie is right that once you pick 1st OA you should not be allowed top 3 or 4 for the next 3 years... How is Devils picking 1st twice in 3 years fair? This is even worse than watching stinking Oilers draft 1st year after year, as they just plain suck... Watching Devils become a power house now, while we have to pay our dues because Oilers were piss poor for so long. God almighty I hate Oilers for screwing it up for us. And then Rangers and Blackhawks???? Blackhawks...ffs... Just wait and see the system being changed again in a few years, when we become playoffs bound again...This is an absolute joke. SergioMomesso
I'm still wondering why reward 3 teams? The only spot that should be available is the #1 pick.
Nucker 67
I'm not sure there is such secrecy with the lottery. Is it their way of hyping the event, the more secrecy the more intrigue? Stupid. All this does is cause those who lose out to question how valid it is. What they should've done is: - There are the bottom 15 teams who missed the playoffs. The worst team gets 15 entries into a hat, the 2nd worst team gets 14, and so on, until the 15th place team gets 1 entry. First three picks out of the hat is the top 3. Simple, effective, fair. I just do not see the need for a lottery adding the element of chance just sullies what is supposed to be a professional league, imo. the loser point is another aspect where the cure does not fit the problem too often the NHL tries to force "entertainment" into the equasion when what they used to be selling is sport. Lottery is not sport tanking was the problem, punish tankers teams protecting a tie with 10 minutes left to play, punish ties every game I watch that ends in a tie, the announcer says, "each team pockets a point" - REWARD if the lottery is such a good idea, why not flip a coin at the end of a tie game? winner take all ( both points). does not adversely impact the rest of the league, and solves the original problem I just thought this up, but it makes more sense than the current loser point, and it solves ther original problem. heck, why bother with the convoluted tie break system, 2 teams tied after 82 games, flip a coin. 3 teams tied, then you need a lottery. given how poorly DoPS and the war room opperate why not flip a coin for those rulings as well? Goalie interference , flip a coin. elbow to the head, use the lottery, 1000 balls- 1 game to 1000 games I didn't mean to turn this into a rant, but when the league acts like a game show why not embrace it. move George Parros to the west coast and work the "Penal Lottery" after the last game finishes each night, it would probably out perform Judge Judy on TV ratings and bring in more american fans

lmm
imagine George Parros and his moustache in a Herb Tarlik suit loading lottery balls that hold the fate of the offending players While Nick and Kelly et al fill the Hollywood Square set and make bad joke about player losing their careers to the lottery balls I'd rather watch that than "cupcake wars" then Ron McLean doing post verdict interviews, "Well Cookie it looks like you ended that guys career, now you are out for 966 games, whats next for you?"

It just proves that it does not help to continue with the help/ or reward of drafting high continuously to lower ranking teams... that said, does not transfer the overall game competition for the entire league.
