If we are letting other players go, (freeing up contract spaces) I don't see the harm in Reid Boucher on a 1 year Utica contract.  He is a good AHL player.  Utica does need some stability and having someone there who won't be called up isn't always bad.

Would Boucher agree though? He might want to find a team that will give him an NHL contract even if he ends up in the AHL anyway. Or maybe he starts to explore the idea of playing in Europe. He would really need some serious ties to Utica if he wants to stall his career there.

Bolded any differences... we need to clear the decks somewhat I think as we have a lot of guys who aren't difference makers under contract.  Move as many out as possible for even mid-late picks/prospects over the next three years so we have a continuous pipeline going forward

All the XXX below are spots we should be looking at upgrading and if not possible, slot in remaining players we have and can't trade.

XXX-Petterson-Boeser
Baertschi (or XXX)-Horvat-Pearson (ideally Pearson slots on the third line and we have a better option here)
Rousell-Gaudette-XXX
XXX-Beagle-MacEwan
Motte or XXX

Edler-Stecher
Hughes-XXXX
XXXX-XXXX

XXXX-Schenn

If kind of shows how much we need.  1-3 top six forwards, a third line of Baertschi-Gaudette-Pearson looks a lot better than slotting two of those guys as 2nd liners.  Our lineup sure looks better if somehow we score the 2nd pick and get Kakko who would look good immediately in our top 6.  Roussel-Beagle-MacEwan is a great 4th line that probably plays as many minutes as the 3rd line, especially Roussel-Beagle as our primary PK duo.

Defence, we need three top 6 D.  You want Stecher to be on the 2nd or 3rd pairing really.  Hutton is a serviceable 3rd pairing guy, but entirely expendance and maybe sell him off with a decent season under his belt.

RFA - Brock Boeser If I'm JB I'm trying to sell him on his pride and desire to win a cup. He didn't out score Bo given a better opportunity to do so. I'm offering the Bo contract. 6x 5.5m when Brock isn't scoring he isn't bringing much else to the table. If he want's 7m+ I might see if there is a top 10 pick market for him or package him with our first to move up. I'm a big Boeser fan and I think he wants to be part of this team and I also think he wants to win here. If we win a Cup in Vancouver he will make a lot more than 9m in advertising/sponsorships for the rest of his life. So far he looks like a young James Niel more than Patrick Laine.

RFA - Markus Granlund (Qualify him) he's a moveable asset you can't just let him walk. he's good depth.

RFA - Tyler Motte (2 years at $900,000 NHL and $250,000 minors) bout right!

RFA - Josh Leivo (2 years at $1.75 million) yes please!

RFA - Nikolay Goldobin (Don't qualify; sign him as UFA for 1 year at $650,000 NHL and $150,000 minors) Risky but I like it at worst he walks which isn't earth-shattering. But I'm willing to bet at some point he will turn into this regimes Grabner. The player we gave up on who later puts it together.

UFA - Alex Edler  I think he gets more 6.5 ish he is better than a lot of players on the open market who will get more than that.

RFA - Ben Hutton (Qualify him) show him some love for turning it around and putting in work 3.5m x 2 take him until he's UFA and re sign after the ED.

UFA - Luke Schenn 1 year deal I'm not signing waiver fodder to a 2 year deal after a few games.

RFA - Derrick Pouliot (not sign) Toodles!

RFA - Josh Teves (2 years at $925,000 NHL and $162,500 minors) like it!

RFA - Brogan Rafferty (2 years at $925,000 NHL and $162,500 minors) Like it!

RFA - Thatcher Demko 4 years at 2m I don't think JB will be able to finagle out of an ED issue here one of them will have to be moved

Minors/Injured

RFA - Yan Pavel Laplante Keep him around he's feisty.

UFA - Tom Pyatt (not sign)

RFA - Brendan Gaunce (2 years at $800,000 in NHL and minors)

UFA - Tanner Kero (1 year at 1 year at $800,000 in NHL and minors)

RFA - Reid Boucher Keep him around he's a good AHL player.

UFA - Evan McEneny (not sign)

RFA - Nikolay Goldobin - Walk, trade if we can. I think he's done here.

UFA - Alex Edler - 3 Years 5m

RFA - Ben Hutton - Qualify, 2 years 3m. If we can upgrade him, I'd be willing to trade Hutton too\

RFA - Josh Teves Retain, he'll be in the minors.

RFA - Brogan Rafferty - Retain, he'll be in the minors.

you might be right, I just don't see it as obvious to just let him walk as a number of people posted..  If he has better opportunities elsewhere, I wouldn't blame him in the least.  I can't see him being in the Canucks plans for the big team, but I can see value for Utica.

Largely agree with theo5789 with a few adjustments

RFA - Brock Boeser (5 years at $5.75 million or 7 years at 6.5 million)

RFA - Markus Granlund (Qualify with intention to trade)

RFA - Tyler Motte (2 years at $900,000 NHL)

RFA - Josh Leivo (2 years at $1.75 million)

RFA - Nikolay Goldobin (Qualify - 1 year more to find himself)

UFA - Alex Edler (Don't think he will sign without a clause, so 2 years 6 million, ntc.  If he wants term of 3 years, I'd like to push for that 3rd year to drop the clause)

RFA - Ben Hutton (Qualify)

UFA - Luke Schenn (1 year at $1 million)

RFA - Derrick Pouliot (Goodbye)

RFA - Josh Teves (2 years at $925,000 NHL and $162,500 minors)

RFA - Brogan Rafferty (2 years at $925,000 NHL and $162,500 minors)

RFA - Thatcher Demko (2 years at $1.5 million, or 4 years at 2.25 million)

Minors/Injured

RFA - Yan Pavel Laplante (not sign)

UFA - Tom Pyatt (not sign)

RFA - Brendan Gaunce (Sign for Utica)

UFA - Tanner Kero (1 year at 1 year at $800,000 in NHL and minors)

RFA - Reid Boucher (Sign for Utica)

UFA - Evan McEneny (not sign)

He was better than Laine this year in 13 fewer games...

Remind me how many 30 goal seasons Brock has? How about 44 goal seasons. He's also 2 years older and has never played a full 82 games. It's not even debatable who the better goal scorer is and that's Brocks primary function. Brock has a permanently screwed up wrist and is missing a part of his spine. A 7 year 7m contract seems pretty risky to me.

Give Boeser 6x6. Extend Markstrom for 4 more years at 4.5mil. May seem like it's a little on the low side, but that's why you extend him early. If he plays next season, all of next season, the way he played the 2nd half of this season he'd very likely ask for 5.5ish. As of now you can negotiate from the "well you have half a good season in your career". Most everyone else will get the bridge or minor league contract.

lol lol

Have you gone to capfriendly ? You will never sign Boser for 5 million...

Boser between 6.5 -- 7.0 million for 6 yrs

Leivo 2 yrs x 1.7 per yr

Goldy will want at least same as Virtanen 1.2 million per yr

Hutton - will want between 3.7 - 4.0 million

Edler - will demand for short 2 yr contract 5.6 million..

Grandlund try and package he is a very good depth guy..

Rest of players I agree with..

I don't think that sounds on the low side at all.  The guy played great hockey for a quarter of the season... he can't possibly expect that to translate into the big bucks yet.

To me, a lot has to do with how he plays next year.  If he can keep it up then fine but I really would like a bigger sample size than what we've seen so far before we throw term at him.  If he did happen to fall down to earth, I would hate for us to be saddled with a 4.5m contract for 4 years for a backup. In the middle of that contract, we would be back into cap management territory.

I think if we did an extension, all sides would benefit from a 2 year term.  This gives him time to convince everyone that he is the real deal, and if not and we did decide to move on from him he can man the net while Demko hopefully learns to become a #1 himself.  2 years also buys us time to see how Demko and DiPietro are progressing, and we will have a better idea what to do with our goalie situation overall.
