Popular Post Gally
Man this one stings. Jason was an unbelievably talented and entertaining writer who gained an unwarranted reputation as negative by telling it like it was. There will never be another Botch. Sending prayers to his friends and family. 5 1

SabreFan1
Too bad he didn't have symptoms prior to his death. At the age of 48, there's a lot of things that can be done like stenting and bypasses to keep your heart's veins open.
Popular Post -AJ-
Really puts things into perspective. Botchford was called a lot of derogatory names by many and even I rarely liked his work, but things like this make you think a moment longer before you say or type a comment about someone.
EternalCanuckFan
Heart goes out to Botch's family. Botch was so young and he clearly worked very hard to become a fixture in Vancouver sports media. I appreciated Botch's ability to speak to both sides of a story, even if he generally tended towards a cynical approach to the narrative. Botch also simply had an entertaining way of writing which, sadly, will no longer be available. Classy of Torts to note Botch's passing in his presser. I might be in the minority but I liked Torts and felt he didn't get a fair shot from management. Torts does have a tendency to go off the deep end from time to time, but it's always out of his zeal for the game and passion to protect his players.
ReggieBush
Thoughts and prayers to his family and friends. Despite my disdain for opinions, takes, and overall journalistic integrity, nobody (except for a select few) deserves to pass at such a young age.

PhillipBlunt
Rest in peace, Jason. He left behind a young family who will grow up without him in their lives. Horribly sad &^@#ing news. Edited May 1, 2019 by PhillipBlunt
Popular Post greetingsfrombrazil
I was a big fan of Botch's writing and am terribly saddened by his passing. No matter his opinion, his style of writing was so inspiring. He would avoid writing the conventional article with standard quotes at all costs. He would dig deep, ask the right questions and devote so much time to The Athleties and Provies in order to give the public good pieces of journalism, with great content. His last article on Brock Boeser and his influence on Elias Pettersson is just great stuff. To have such skills on writing is something else, he was one of a kind and, as a journalist myself - even though I'm brazilian -, I really admired Botch as he inspired me to be a better professional. I read a lot of stuff, from various journalism channels, and Botch's technic was really, really good. He will be deeply missed. Canucks' post games will not be the same without him. 2 3 1
Popular Post Tank Swank
Absolutely gutted to hear this Jason Botchford was the best media personality Vancouver had to offer, by far. Not even close He engaged this fanbase in a way it had never been engaged before and he did it with such passion - he was a guy you could tell loved this market, loved the fanbase and loved his job. The guy worked very hard and I'm thankful for his effort The Provies (then Athleties) were pretty cutting edge when they came out, I always looked so forward to reading them after a game. They broke down games in an effective, disciplined but humorous way. Most importantly I think he really got Vancouver and its fans, he knew us all so well and knew what we wanted to hear and read about So sorry for his family. Just terrible news He will be supremely missed, that's a huge loss for this fanbase Edited May 1, 2019 by Tank Swank 7 2 4

At the age of 48, there's a lot of things that can be done like stenting and bypasses to keep your heart's veins open. Some heart conditions don't have any symptoms prior to needing emergency help. Something like an aortic aneurysm for example. That's how John Ritter and Alan Thicke passed away. No symptoms at all and their aneurysm suddenly dissected or ruptured and they bled to death. I would advise all men over the age of 40 to get an echocardiogram done to look for an aneurysm or a valve problem. I doubt Jason had a heart attack as he would have had chest pains and other symptoms prior. 1
Popular Post canuckhound73
When I first saw his name today in my twitter feed I thought "wow, that guy has the same name as that Canucks writer" not thinking it was him. Seemed so improbable someone that young would pass away so suddenly. Him & I had argued a few times over the years on twitter over view points on what was best for the team. While we didnt always agree, I definitely can say he had something few other writers had.... a desire to see the team get better. He cared about seeing this team succeed as much as most "die hard" fans say they do. This sucks for everyone who is a fan of the team, because the largest voice FOR the fans has been silenced. My condolences to his family, friends and fans. 3 1

Popular Post Quantum
I listened to him, read his "Provies"/"Athletties" column after every game for the last three seasons, and actually listened to the Patcast. Sure, there was a ton of stuff he wrote about that I disagreed with but he was one of the most entertaining sports reporters to ever come into hockey. RIP Botchford. Condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues. He'll be missed. Edited May 1, 2019 by Quantum 3 1

NickTheGreek
By FAR my favourite local media personality He was so damn entertaining and was able to stir the pot with facts to back him up Let's be honest. Canadian sports media can be pretty dull for the most part but this dude had some flare. RIP Botch you beauty 3
