Lemme guess....the Granlund deal 'made no sense at the time'? Flipping NIlsson or Del Zotto for late picks "made no sense"? Renting Vanek for Motte "made no sense"? Taking Leivo from Dubas "made no sense"? Bieksa and Garrison for 2nd round picks "made no sense"? Renting Holm for Leipsic 'made no sense'? Lack for a couple draft picks (3rd and 7th) 'made no sense'? Kesler for Bonino, 1st, Sbisa "made no sense'? Get real. You're 'making no sense'. The granlund trade did make no sense. We didnt need an older grinder. Shinkaruk should have been traded for the highest pick we could get. Granlund has been useless to us. And yeah after getting a 2nd for garisson he proceeds to flip that 17 year old prospect for a 22 year old hack lindey vey. 5 years of potential trial growth on a prospect down the drain Benning style lol. And yes most of his trades make no sense but sounds like you are willing to make up some crappy criteria to defend him. Like I said. Almost every single trade he made we got older which is absolutely ludicrous for a rebuilding team. Edited May 7, 2019 by Tomatoes11

That's why we traded for Linden Vey, Granlund and Sven. We hit it on two of those, and struck out on Linden Vey. 2nd rounders usually don't make it to the NHL.

Eriksons saving grace is he hasnt become a defensive liability....except for his first game lol Pretty sure Vrb hated our tank commander Edited May 7, 2019 by HughMungus

That Russian guy the leafs signed today for free already sounds better than Vey, Granlund , and Sven. And he was free and didn’t cost a 2nd that we may have fluked out on. He is projected to be a two way 40 point guy. If he hits that it’s more than Sven. Sorry, but Benning simply doesn’t know the concept of value if it hit him in the face. What did getting those players 20-25 do other than cost draft picks? Look at who Benning has found in the 2nd round with the picks he's kept.

Very poor strategy by canuck management in my opinion. At that time, Canucks should have embraced the full tank and tried for a number 1 overall pick. My neighbour plays womens grasshockey on weekends and she probably is way tougher to play against than Sven or Granny panties or Vey. I take the mystery box not the flimsy cookware set. Easy choice Motte, Granlund, Leipsic, and Vey, at the end of the day are all 4th liners to AHL first liners at best so the fact that people use these as "wins" is just sad. They are the kind of trades you make if we needed to shore up depth for playoff pushes...which I guess is probably what our management team thought they were.. a rebuilding team needs picks to hopefully find some impact players, or players who can grow up in our system and at least help ice competitive minor league teams which also would help our more legit prospects become better players. Alex Mallet, a 4th, Pedan and a 3rd for Derick Pouliot. That's a win too because Pouliot has played NHL games..right guys?

VancouverHabitant 3,952 Posted May 7, 2019 @kingofsurrey and @Tomatoes11, I'm going to tell you one thing now and I want you to count to one thousand steamboats everytime that you make a new post. Everyone here like Jim Benning and the job that he's done. You don't, but we don't really give a F. So let it be.... go on and wait for him to be fired and gloat then. For now, and the next couple of years, you're stuck with Jimbo.

You're looking at a 30% success rate. You are more then likely to draft a dud, then to hit on an NHL player. If you don't understand those simple probabilities, then go back to math 12. 1 1

I don't know why you are bringing up 2009 and the 7th round, the only takeaway i get from this is that you are saying it's a bad idea to trade for a second rounder? So why do teams do it all the time? Why did Benning trade Bieksa for a second? Was that a bad trade on Bennings part? Think about what you are saying here We don't need NHL players we need good NHL players Boston, the team Benning was a part of, the team that is off to the conference finals AGAIN is filled with 2nd and 3rd rounders.. Marchand and Bergeron are at the top of that list. Edited May 7, 2019 by The 5th Line

Marchand and Bergeron are at the top of that list. With Boston, keep in mind those 2nd and 3rd rounders were drafted over a period of 15+ years. Bergeron was drafted way back in 2003, the freak year where almost everyone practically became a superstar. Since then, Boston's had some other good picks in the 2nd and 3rd round but, if you look at their draft history after 2006, there are not a lot of hits in the 2nd and 3rd round. Maybe Carlo or Spooner among a couple of others? Nothing nearly as lucky as before. So, while I see what you're saying.... I think perhaps you have a little too much focus on their drafting from 13+ years ago. Here's a good link actually with Boston. Shows their draft history. They've had some ups and some downs interestingly enough. 2007, 2009 and 2013 among other years look terrible lol.: http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/draft/teams/dr00004919.html Edited May 7, 2019 by The Lock
