To Ottawa: Eriksson

To Vancouver: McArthur + 2020 Ottawa R2 + 2020 Ottawa R3

Switch McArthur with Bobby Ryan and Ottawa may be willing to deal.  McArthur's deal ends after this year, but Ryan and Eriksson both have three more years however Ryan is owed $22.50 million whereas Eriksson is owed $9 million.  I really doubt Aquilini would want to pay $13 million for a second and third round pick though, so doesn't really make sense for either team.

Make that two seconds and Bobby Ryan for Eriksson and you got a deal.

If we want to get more picks we should be targeting OTT.   Tanev for one of their seconds MIGHT fly, as would possibly AG or even better Rousell (sell high right?).   The OP is considering the financial issues Melnyk is facing (and he’s getting John to pay John right now and wouldn’t be surprised at all if the Sens end up on the market at some point as he’s bleeding cash to pay his debts right now and this would solve most of his cash problems...and Seattle has set the bar at 650 right?).   Melnyk has cut costs drastically across the boards for the operating costs to run this franchise and traded LE might work for him so this proposal makes some sense.

OTT has something like 17 picks coming there way, which will help their rebuild tremendously, AND their scouting staff has historically done a great job over the past twenty years.  They are ripe for the picking when it comes to doing what JB did early on trying to put some early 20 year olds into the roster with Vey and Bear, getting one of their seconds makes a lot of sense for both teams.   Who would we give them though?  They might not be happy with the Burrows trade but it’s not like Dahlen is playing in the NHL so maybe not.  Maybe we could recycle someone like Lind and get another crack at it?  Or maybe sell them on Bear?  Hard to say.  Tanev too.  Definitely there is something there, it depends on what they are willing to give up for the players we have.

Doesn't Tanev have a limited NTC now?  I don't think he puts the Sens on his list of acceptable trade destinations.

Baer (IMO) has no value.

Loui, as we all know, is a boat anchor who will cost us picks and prospects to dump.

The few players we have with actual value, and the younger ones we need to keep and build on.

Yep.  We are screwed.  Not a lot JB can do to add picks....let’s hope he’s more creative then me..

Even with limited picks, JB seems to get us more potentially top prospects than other GM's do with more picks.  If our owner will continue to be patient, and follow JB's rebuild schedule, we will be looking really good in a couple more years.  Heck, we might do really good next season, considering how much Petey can make a difference.  Plus, we have Hughes!

Canucks have too many forwards and every team knows that.  It's more likely the Canucks that will have to part with assets to move some of them.  Moving the better players weakens the Canucks and with Benning wanting to be aggressive in the offseason to make the playoffs it seems unlikely that he will deliberately weaken the team.  The lesser assets won't draw interest.

Ottawa wants to draft and play their prospects.  They can easily reach the floor by taking on an LTIR contract from either Detroit or Vegas - they might even get an asset for it.  Last year Chicago gave up Hinostroza to move Hosssa.  After his bonus is paid Clarkson from Vegas is 200K for a 5.25M cap hit.  Zetterberg's contract is probably insured and in any case he's only owed 1M for a 6.1M cap hit.

Yep.  He’s in the top ten (9) based on our average draft position, which is really, really good for us, and that’s with JV and OJ on his record for first picks (otherwise he’d be in the top five).    OTT is even better.   If they keep it up with their ridiculous number of picks the next couple years they could surprise a lot of teams and end up a powerhouse.  White, Chabot, BT and Batherson are going to help their cause ...

This makes a lot of sense.  I agree that the Canucks won’t add any picks with their plethora of average maybe serviceable players as every team has enough of those already.  I expect the summer to be rather underwhelming with the exception that  Benning is done with signing “character” players to go along with our own youth which is a relief.    Maybe a Vanek to Motte deal best case scenario but don’t even see that happening. The past few year the CDC mocks up a variety of scenarios where we can add picks but I agree nobody wants what we have to offer.  Because we won’t be offering our core.  Maybe a few guys can get healthy and have a resurgent season making them attractive adds at the TDL... that’s the best we can hope for.  And OJ taking a spot and we trade Hutton for an equal RHD.
