I liked Pouliot since his days in Portland.

 

Disappointed it did not work out! Speculating that his passion & therefore commitment did not match his physical gifts. He was almost good enough he could get away with it?

I don't mind this kind of risk taken. There are other guys that, see Josh Leivo, decide to put in the work.  And ultimately the talent starts to surface. There was definitely underlying talent.

I think he was trying..... Seemed like a decent guy, hope he gets a chance somewhere. Who knows, maybe even the KHL could be some good cash for him for a stretch yet.

I am not so sure this means Pouliot will be gone from the Canucks' organization. He had arbitration rights and I am sure the Canucks wanted to avoid that process and any qualifying offer they made could not reduce Pouliot's salary. A qualifying offer is a 1 year one way contract meaning the Canucks would have to pay him his $1.1M contract in the NHL or AHL. They could now make a deal with him as a UFA at a lower salary and make it a two way contract should they choose to do so. This would also allow for him to start the season in Utica without having to clear waivers.

(think I am wrong about the waivers part now that I think about it).....

 

Pouliot may not want anything to do with this scenario but I wouldn't rule it out just yet.

As much as I liked Pedan, he couldn't even get gifted ice time in the AHL last year.  JB isn't perfect and you have a right to dislike him but there's no need to spin everything he's done into a negative.  Pouliot was a gamble that didn't work out.  It happens and we are not worse for it.

There was a lot of discussion over him being a bit pudgy his first October here. There is trying. And there is being driven, having relentless effort. Do anything spirit.

Pedan didn’t make it in Pittsburgh either so you’re point is moot and toothless.

I think he was kinda trying, but just isn’t an NHL capable player. The mistakes he made in his own end were as bad as it gets.

DP played over 17min without any PP or PK time. Yes, I know it wasn't the norm and Quads was injured, but it occurred several times this season. 

 

I think,  if there's a lesson here,  it's that we need to look closely at defensive depth at the draft this June so we don't have to play guys 17min/night that aren't even worth qualifying at seasons end.

i wish him well. he, just couldn’t get it work here. green gave him lots of ice to try and re-invent his junior magic. now they can move on knowing they gave him a good chance to shine. anyone that makes it to the nhl isn’t garbage, some guys can’t translate their junior skills into the nhl.

He was a decent skater who occasionally made great offensive plays. Unfortunately, they were far too occasional and didn't come close to making up for his horrid defense. I suspect he'll either be in the AHL or Europe next year. All the best to him.

Was a reasonable gamble on a former high pick with familiarity with our coach.  He probably shouldn't have been back this year, but it's a good sign that our defensemen in Utica are ready to make the next step.  He's never going to be an NHLer, but maybe Toronto or Edmonton might be willing to take a chance on him.
